The Attorney will work remotely, and make appearances in the Houston (Harris County) and surrounding counties. Key responsibilities include: Independent handling of insurance defense docket of cases in Houston (Harris County) and surrounding counties from inception through and including trial. Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive and develop well-reasoned legal research. Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients. Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies with autonomy. Attend hearings and other court appearances, depositions, and trial with autonomy. Partner with our Claims Partners to achieve the best results for our Hartford insured. Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients on legal and factual issues. Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion. Facilitate prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases. Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutions. Research, draft, file and argue substantive motions on behalf of clients. Provide in-house training to junior associates and/or claims partners. Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain high level of professional expertise. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? Minimum of 7 years of legal practice experience handling tort defense cases. JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of Texas. First-chair jury trial experience is required. Positive-minded and collaborative team-player attitude. Strong legal research and writing skills. Solid MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook). Lexis Nexis experience a plus. Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills. Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required. WHAT ELSE CAN YOU TELL ME? This position is a remote work position; the selected candidate will travel for appearances within the Houston (Harris County) area and surrounding counties. Typical Starting Salary: $145,000-$165,000 Compensation The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees.
