The Hay-Adams company history timeline

1928

When: When The Hay-Adams opened in 1928, the stunning $900,000 building lured plenty of well-heeled guests.

1930

They enjoyed the setting and views, as well as the large suites, kitchens, steam heat, elevators, circulating ice water and, in 1930, Washington, DC's first air-conditioned dining room.

2001

In October 2001, the hotel closed its doors for a major $20 million renovation under the eye of acclaimed Washington, DC, designer Thomas Pheasant.

2002

In March 2002, The Hay-Adams re-emerged fully restored as one of the region’s most refined luxury hotels.

2009

In fact, The Hay-Adams has played host to everyone from Amelia Earhart to the Obamas before the 2009 inauguration.

2011

And in early 2011, the roof terrace, Top of the Hay, was added.
