What you will do

The sonographer is competent in the production, utilization, recognition and analysis of Ultrasound images and patterns used for patient diagnosis and treatment. This position requires expertise in abdomen, obstetrics, and vascular sonography and excludes cardiac scanning.
* DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
* Verifies order and patient prior to examination, obtain patient's clinical history, reads chart/outpatient referral slip and interviews and communicates information to patient or appropriate family member.
* Prepares patients for examinations and explains procedures to patient. Performs Ultrasound procedures. (Vascular, Abdominal, Retroperitoneal, OB/GYN, Doppler and Color Doppler). Observes and detects physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures requiring visual and auditory skills. Observes patient respiration rate. Detects change in patient behavior indicating patient distress, i.e. seizure, aspiration, choking, struggling or coughing.
* Operates complex Ultrasound equipment pertinent to the department's needs (Real Time, B-mode, M-Mode, Doppler, Color Flow Imaging and all related recording systems), after demonstrating competency in theory and practical application of Ultrasound techniques.
* Provides technical aide for surgical biopsy and aspiration procedures, maintains a sterile field while assisting physician by opening sterile needles, syringes, appropriate procedure trays and scanning in a sterile field with sterile gel.
* Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and promptly reports malfunctioning equipment to the Supervisor or Radiology Administrative Director. Contacts field engineer for equipment service as needed.
* EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
* Minimum requirement:
* Graduate of Radiography or Ultrasound Program approved by the JRCERT or equivalent.
* Maintains active certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARMDS) certification within six months from start. CCI certification is applicable to those that perform only cardiac and vascular studies.
* Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
