1927

It cost $2.5 million ($37.3 million today) to complete and opened on May 15, 1927.

1930

That changed the following year when a radio broadcast of the awards program was introduced in 1930.

1932

In fact, she was the highest paid actress of her time when she and Gable met on the set of 1932’s “No Man of Her Own.” Both actors had a strictly professional working relationship on set, and both were married.

1952

1952: Actor Montgomery Clift spent three months at The Hollywood Roosevelt while working on From Here to Eternity.

1953

To commemorate the thoroughfare’s symbolic association to the Los Angeles film industry, E.M. Stuart of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce spearheaded an effort to create a special monument in its honor in 1953.

1956

In 1956, tragedy struck when Clift's car smashed into a telephone pole, jeopardizing his life and leaving his face disfigured.

1987

The million-dollar mural at the bottom of the hotel's Tropicana Pool was painted by David Hockney in 1987.

1988

In 1988, British pop artist David Hockney was commissioned to paint the Roosevelt’s pool bottom.

1995

In 1995, Goodwin Gaw purchased the hotel from Clarion Hotels, with David Chang later becoming co-owner.

2005

The Dodd Mitchell Design Group and David Siguaw oversaw a $30 million renovation of the hotel in 2005.

2015

In 2015, the hotel completed a $25 million renovation with rooms designed by Yabu Pushelberg, and plans for a new poolside food and beverage outlet.
