The Home Depot Dress Code

The dress code at Home Depot is casual but clean and professional. As of 2022, the Home Depot dress code requires employees to wear collared shirts, an orange apron, and either slacks, jeans, or shorts that are no shorter than four inches above the knee.

Home Depot is, however, lenient with piercings, tattoos, and dyed hair as long as they are not offensive and do not pose any safety risks. This allows the company’s employees to express their own personal style while maintaining a standard of professional dress.

Employees must wear shoes that are in good working condition and do not have noticeable brands. Additionally, for some areas of Home Depot, the employee may be required to wear certain types of shoes such as steel-toed boots to avoid safety violations.

Finally, work clothes for Home Depot must not have any branding, slogans, or logos on them aside from the Home Depot logo.

Home Depot Dress Code

Home Depot is a warehouse-style store and, as such, has a dress code that is appropriate for the environment. Though it is not a particularly strict dress code (very casual, really), they strictly enforce it.

The dress code for Home Depot employees:

1. Tops. Blouses, t-shirts, polos, and sweatshirts are acceptable so long as they follow the general rules: no tank tops, sleeveless tops, or one sleeve tops. Tops should be professional, not too low-cut, and cover the midriff.

2. Bottoms. Bottoms can be:

   • Jeans. Any color is acceptable. There should be no rips or tears.

   • Shorts. Athletic shorts are not acceptable. Shorts should be at least mid-thigh and no more than three inches above the knee.

   • Slacks.

   • Khakis.

   • Skirts. Skirts are acceptable but not recommended. Like shorts, these should be at least mid-thigh and no more than three inches above the knee.

   Legging, sweatpants, or yoga pants are not considered acceptable attire.

3. Footwear. Shoes must be closed-toed. Due to the concrete floors and general environment, it is recommended that you wear comfortable shoes with good support. You will be on your feet the majority of your shift on floors with absolutely no give. Be smart in your footwear choices.

4. Tattoos. So long as they are not offensive, you are not required to cover your tattoos.

5. Accessories. Hats are acceptable so long as they abide by the general rules. Necklaces, rings, and bracelets can work so long as they can be worn safely.

6. General. Logo-free clothing is preferable. Clothing should not promote political, religious, or other personal beliefs.

7. Apron. While employees are on the floor, they must wear the orange Home Depot apron at all times.

Home Depot Interview Attire

While the dress code for employees is relatively casual, you should dress business casual for interviews. Those interviewing for management positions should wear more professional attire.

Business casual walks the line between casual and formal. It is a step above jeans but not quite a full business suit.

You should wear:

• Simple, professional tops. Avoid anything form-fitting or low-cut.

• Dress pants or skirt. Slacks, khakis, or cotton pants can be acceptable. If you are wearing a skirt, make sure that it is knee-length or longer.

• Closed-toed shoes. This is a warehouse environment, and closed-toed shoes should be worn at all times—even during an interview.

• Simple accessories. You don’t want to go too over the top with your accessories; it can be distracting and impractical. Keep them simple and professional.
