Minimum Requirements:

The expected salary range for this role is $194,499.00-$216,109.00. To determine starting pay we carefully consider a variety of factors, including primary work location and an evaluation of a candidate's skills, experience, market demands, and internal parity. Additionally, salary is just one component of TRR's total rewards package. Depending on role, employees may also be eligible for a bonus program, incentive pay and benefits.

Umbra is seeking a SystemsEngineeringManager to lead the Mission Solutions systemsengineering group. This individual will report to the Director of Engineering and oversee personnel who architect, design, build, test, and operate Umbra's advanced satellite and space mission technology.
As SystemsEngineeringManager, you will collaborate with systems, hardware, and software teams, along with senior staff, to drive new technology development and lead a talented group of engineers.
The SystemsEngineeringManager will lead our mission architects, mission designers, and systemsengineers through the program lifecycle from early concept through delivery to customers. You will collaborate and work closely with our program management team to ensure programmatic and technical alignment to enable mission success
This position is based on-site in our Arlington, VA office or Reston, VA office (coming soon).
Key Responsibilities
Establish & maintain systemsengineering technical excellence within Mission Solutions.
Lead, contribute, and support the systemsengineering group through the full program lifecycle.
Contribute and review proposal submissions for accuracy in technical content.
Functional management of technical staff includes:
Coordinating and reporting on departmental efforts.
Conducting regular one-on-one meetings and performance reviews.
Guiding the professional development and career planning of mission solutions engineers.
Manage workload, assignments, support, and conflict resolution for team members.
Ensuring compliance with legal regulations, security standards, and company policies.
Identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Program staffing forecasts and recruiting:
Collaborate with stakeholders on headcount planning and hiring.
Work closely with project and technical leads to understand the scope of work, ensuring high-quality and efficient execution.
Develop resource basis of estimates for proposals and department growth.
Use agile practices to support sprint planning, track progress, and manage individual performance.
Other professional duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a related STEM field.
8+ years of professional experience in systemsengineering or a related field, with 3+ years of professional experience in direct personnel management.
3+ years of professional experience in project management.
3+ years of professional experience in space mission systemsengineering.
Demonstrated ability to develop and support a team of engineers.
Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic environment.
Desired Qualifications
10+ years of professional experience in systemsengineering or related field, with 7+ years of experience in direct personnel management.
5+ years of experience in project management.
5+ years of experience in space mission systemsengineering.
Experience with agile project management practices and tools, such as scrum, SAFe and Jira.
Experience with traditional project management practices and tools, such as critical path analysis, resource loading and MS Project.
Experience with the full program lifecycle including systemsengineering, software, and hardware deliverables.
