Cons of working at The Home Depot

What do you like best about The Home Depot's CEO and the leadership team?

Don't care too much about the CEO, but the regional VP and district managers to randomly pop in and treat us hourly associates with a smile and a hello.

How would you improve The Home Depot's culture?

They should listen to the input of us front line workers.

Pros of working at The Home Depot

Most co-workers do try under pressures of skeleton staff and hours being cut to increase corporate profits. It's easy to get noticed if you go above and beyond. Harder to be compensated for going above and beyond.

Cons of working at The Home Depot

Very difficult to get FT status. Tiresome training videos that gaslight the watcher with regards to the value wheel. It does not take long to learn the value wheel is really only true with the floor associates. Every level of management focuses less and less on all segments except the shareholder. The higher you get in the management chain, the more factual that statement becomes.

The Home Depot benefits

I don't really have anything to say here. Not many perks which are specific to THD. The free eye care is nice. The fact they make it so difficult to go full time really limits the full benefits package. The low pay makes it difficult to buy into the stocks and other financial benefits offered. Most associates don't make enough to survive without some other source of income.

What do you like best about The Home Depot's CEO and the leadership team?

The new program where they are sending or corporate employees out on the floor to spend a shift is a good idea. Whether it becomes a publicity stunt if yet to be seen.

How would you improve The Home Depot's culture?

Force the all the management outside of the stores to spend time on the floor with associates and let them shadow the associate. They all need to be retrained on the full value wheel. There are enough crybabies at the HD which can be dismissed as such but there are enough associates that really live the orange life and these are the people the corporate managers need to spend time with.

How did you prepare for the The Home Depot interview?

I didn't really prepare outside of my experience as a professional in the field of finish carpentry.

How does your compensation at The Home Depot compare to the industry average?

It could be acceptable I suppose in certain circumstances. For anyone that comes here for a "career" as they advertise on the banners over the front door... you will struggle to make this your only source of income.

What's the diversity at The Home Depot like?

I think they actually do a good job here.

What brings you the most joy at The Home Depot?

The customers. I spend time and really just follow the basics of customer service. I don't need all these silly ideas like GET. I have done that and more my entire life when I deal with people.

Pros of working at The Home Depot

Very kind and family like people at the labor force level. Good people working hard.

Cons of working at The Home Depot

1. Ageism. 2. Little concern for quality and service as it was years ago when professional people were hired. 3. Teaches people (customers) to steal with abandon. Flagrant disregard for consequences or accountability. 4. Understaffed by design to decrease costs and increase bonuses for managers. Sad. 5. Poor productivity is rewarded by ignoring the need for individual accountability in the effort to coddle lazy employees who don’t carry their own weight overworking productive employees to achieve the delta. 6. Fake and superficial examples of award for participation instead of genuine reward for real accomplishments.

The Home Depot benefits

Insurance. Mediocre but serviceable.

What do you like best about The Home Depot's CEO and the leadership team?

Energetic but misguided effort that represents the minority of wealthy higher level employees.

How would you improve The Home Depot's culture?

Reverse the bonus attributes for success starting with the labor force instead of the management team. The real earners for the success of The Home Depot are the workers on the floor and not the managers in the offices. As us typical, the workers bonuses are as small as their salaries and the greatest benefit of bonuses for success are larger for the workers who contribute the least. Shameful.

How did you prepare for the The Home Depot interview?

Serious in-depth research and employee engagement in the stores. Communication with recruiters.

How does your compensation at The Home Depot compare to the industry average?

Poorly!

What's the diversity at The Home Depot like?

Acceptable but requires improvement.

What brings you the most joy at The Home Depot?

Helping people with solutions to their problems.

Pros of working at The Home Depot

its close to my house

Cons of working at The Home Depot

No accountability, favoritism, non visible management staff, unfair labor actions

The Home Depot benefits

stock price

What do you like best about The Home Depot's CEO and the leadership team?

CEO is a non entity on the store level. visits from regional management is a joke, we call it the dog and pony show.

How would you improve The Home Depot's culture?

Home Depot has some great ideas but once they hit the store level they become watered down and ineffective. Make a rule and stick with it - collared shirts, no cell phones on the floor - which has become a major issue

How did you prepare for the The Home Depot interview?

Walked in and 10 minutes later walked out with a job. None of this "Tell me about a time when you..." All that does is ensure the biggest BS artist wins Go back to the old days of interviewing, on the spot with a couple of simple questions. Half the time new associates aren't a good match regardless of the lengthy process

How does your compensation at The Home Depot compare to the industry average?

Having been with them for 25 years, it took me all of those years to triple my salary from my starting wage of $10/hour, which back then was great, now they pay like every one else

The Home Depot benefits

Ability to transfer to different stores if needed due to relocating

Cons of working at The Home Depot

Raises are based off a “team” performance not an individual performance. Thus leading one to not have any motivation to perform above standards when your coworkers don’t.

Pros of working at The Home Depot

Learning different departments

What do you like best about The Home Depot's CEO and the leadership team?

Nothing. They just want their money and don’t care about the environment the employees work in. They do not ask associates what would make the stores better but they are quick to put their two cents in. They would rather a forklift operator take a bunk of 12ft 2x8 lumber through the store around customers instead of having a contractor pull around back to be loaded where it is safer, and one would not have to interfere with customers shopping experience

How would you improve The Home Depot's culture?

All stores do not need to be treated the same. ie: if an incident happens at a store that should not interfere with another store’s ability to continue operating as they were.

How did you prepare for the The Home Depot interview?

The same as any interview.

Pros? Location is close to home. Lenient late in policy. Accrual of sick pay and vacation pay. Benefit availability starts day 1 for most programs.

Cons of working at The Home Depot

Cons? Easier than pros. PAY. We got a 3% raise. Woo hoo. Doesn't even add a$100 a pay period. On a lark, I applied for a free government phone. I qualified in spite of working FULL TIME. Pitiful to live well below the federal poverty guidelines while

Pros of working at The Home Depot

If you get to work with people who actually want to work and work their schedule its awesome. Benefit options like free eye care

Cons of working at The Home Depot

Unrealistic work load and work life balance. One thing after another added to all positions but cutting back on hours to add to high call out rates. Upper management has lost the understanding of what its like to work in the building where people dont care about your title and show you lack of respect.

Pros of working at The Home Depot

Homer Fund

Cons of working at The Home Depot

Worked at Auburn Ma. store over 10yrs. Within the last few months new HR person took over and wanted me to change my availability. Due to my wife"s severe medical condition I could not. After being loyal & dedicated for all those years I was told in a roundabout way maybe I should consider quitting. I was really shocked by this response. I've worked in HR at my other job before retiring after 37 yrs of service and would have tried everything in my power to reach a happy medium. Not in this case. I ended up quitting . If Home Depot is supposed to be family God pity non family . Very hurt and disappointed.
