This paid summer program is based downtown at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Throughout the summer, students will work on their assigned project three days and shadow once a week to gain observation hours. The Child Mind Institute is proud to offer a one-year pre-doctoral internship designed to prepare candidates for a successful career in child and adolescent clinical psychology. The internship will begin as early as July 1, 2026. Consideration will also be given to candidates who will not be able to begin the internship until as late as September 1, 2026. Our pre-doctoral internship in clinical psychology offers an extraordinary opportunity for a qualified student to receive structured training in a unique, innovative multidisciplinary setting. Internship training focuses on accurate interviewing and clinical assessment for a wide variety of primary and comorbid presenting mental health concerns-including anxiety disorders, trauma, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, mood disorders, ADHD, behavior or conduct disorders, among others-as well as various evidence-based treatments for children, adolescents, young adults, and their families. Specialized training in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) interventions, including exposure and response prevention (ERP), parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT), and other evidence-based treatments will be provided. Opportunities for training in other treatment approaches (e.g., parent-child interaction therapy for selective mutism [PCIT-SM], dialectical behavior therapy [DBT]), as well as psychoeducational and neuropsychological assessment, while not central components of the pre-doctoral internship, may be made available to interested interns.
