The Iowa Clinic has an exciting opportunity to be a part of a team that will open our new musculoskeletal-focused ambulatory surgery center. Conveniently located near I-80 in Waukee, this state-of-the-art, 21,000 sq. ft. ASC offers same-day joint replacement, orthopedic, sports medicine, foot and ankle, pain management surgery and a cardiac catheterization lab in an out-patient setting. A Day in the Life of Ambulatory Surgery RN…
The Pre/Post OR and Cath Lab RN will be responsible for preforming duties related to direct patient care. The role will be assessing, monitoring, recovering, and providing professional nursing services for patients of assigned physician(s) following established nursing practice standards. The position will provide professional nursing support in the ambulatory surgery center by assisting physicians with procedures, patient assessment, transfers, and patient education in the Pre/Post Op and Cath Lab setting.
Essential Functions:
* Delivers patient care consistent with established professional nursing standards and surgery center policies and practices.
* Gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative, PACU (postoperative anesthesia care unit) and post-operative care in the OR and Cath Lab while maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encounters and keeping patient flow in mind.
* Observes patients for side effects of anesthesia and monitors patient`s level of consciousness throughout the sedation recovery.
* Provides pre-operative and discharge instructions to patients including, but not limited to, diet, activity, medication reconciliation, and obtaining a post-operative appointment, if needed.
* Assures education is provided to patients and their families regarding post-surgery care at home.
Minimum Requirements:
* Two years nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting - Pre/Post Op OR or Cath Lab required.
* Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
* Current RN license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa.
* BLS and ACLS Required

* Provide professional nursing services for patients of assigned physician(s) following established nursing practice standards and medical office procedures; Monday-Friday, standard clinic hours in West Des Moines with coverage (as needed) in Ankeny.
