Your Opportunity as The Principal Engineer - FH&S - TSO The Principal Engineer will provide project management leadership, while developing processing technology expertise across FH&S (Frozen Handhelds & Spreads) SBA product base. The Principal Engineer will support delivery of projects and optimizations and partner with cross-functional partners to deliver robust solutions for new product initiatives. Consistently demonstrates expertise to analyze data trends and execute data mining exercises Facilitate and/or participate in FH&S SBA Processing technology upgrades - UNC/PB/JJP Develop appropriate external technical partnerships with third party consultant groups for technology support and trouble-shooting needs Interface with Technical Food Safety resources to incorporate improved product protection elements associated with SBA Processing systems Provide technical coaching and collaboration within the TSO department and Plant Operations to drive continuous improvement Serve as a sought-after technical resource for food technologists and process engineers Creates an environment in which colleagues are engaged to collaborate Advocate for increased standardization across ingredients, transformations, and equipment Lead and deliver capital projects as needed; support capital projects led by plant or SBA engineers Design out defects (quality/cost/loss) in the early phases of projects Design and execute qualifications with suppliers, production facilities, and contract manufacturers Execute proof of concept and recommendation of new technologies supporting formulation, process, and food safety improvements Manages specifications and changes with associated testing or project work, as needed. What We are Looking For: Minimum Requirements: A Bachelor degree is required; BS in Engineering, Food Science, or Food Chemistry is preferred. 8+ years of experience in TSO-Engineering, R&D, Quality, Operations; or related food industry experience is required. Fundamental understanding of FDA production systems, along with advanced knowledge of food chemistry is desired. Ready to shape the future of professional tools? In this exciting new role as a Systems Engineer in Elyria, OH, you'll be responsible for shaping and guiding the mechanical and product-level system architecture across new product development (NPD) initiatives in partnership with category engineering teams. This is a hands-on technical leadership role that actively shapes early concepts, evaluates tradeoffs, and influences real design decisions. This role ensures our products are built on sound, scalable, reusable mechanical subsystems and interfaces that enable speed, consistency, cross-category integration, and high-quality outcomes. Working across product categories and with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you'll identify subsystem requirements, define mechanical interfaces, align cross-functional stakeholders, and establish strategies for subsystem reuse and design methodology standardization. You'll collaborate with the Electrical Systems Architect and other shared-service teams, most notably Industrial Design, to enable cohesive, user-centered, technically robust product architectures. In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be: System Architecture & Requirements Definition Define the initial, critical, and detailed mechanical system architecture for new products. Establish system-level and subsystem-level mechanical requirements based on product-level requirements that guide design, integration, and verification. Identify required subsystems (structural, thermal, motion, safety, packaging, sealing, etc.) and specify the performance and interface requirements for each. Subsystem Strategy & Reuse Identify opportunities to leverage common mechanical subsystems, components, and design methodologies across product categories. Lead efforts to develop and maintain reusable subsystem libraries, best-practice templates, and standard interface definitions. Evaluate tradeoffs between bespoke design and platform reuse based on performance, cost, manufacturability, and NPD speed. Cross-Functional Technical Collaboration Collaborate closely with the Electrical Systems Architect to develop holistic product-level technical architectures and ensure mechanical-electrical-software coherence. Partner with Industrial Design to align mechanical architecture with user experience, ergonomics, form factor, aesthetic intent, and brand consistency. Engage Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Product Management, and Service to ensure mechanical architecture decisions are viable, scalable, and aligned with business needs. NPD Process Enablement & Technical Leadership Work with Lead/Principal Engineers on category teams to ensure projects start with clear, intentional, and complete product requirements. Facilitate architectural reviews focused on early alignment, risk identification, and integration readiness. Provide early identification of technical risks and guide research, prototyping, or analysis activities needed to de-risk architectures in collaboration with the Lead Engineer. Monitor mechanical architecture implementation across projects and ensure learnings feed continuous improvement. Technology Evaluation & Innovation Evaluate emerging mechanical technologies, materials, and design approaches for potential application in future products. Drive innovation in mechanical integration, miniaturization, motion systems, sealing strategies, structural solutions, and other domain-relevant areas. For This Role, You Will Need: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field 5+ years of experience in mechanical system design, systems engineering, or architecture roles Experience developing complex electro-mechanical products Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart: Experience with consumer or industrial hardware NPD in multidisciplinary environments. Experience defining mechanical system architectures or leading early-phase concept development. Proficiency with CAD tools and simulation/analysis methods (FEA, thermal analysis, tolerance analysis). Familiarity with DFMA, reliability engineering, and design controls. Experience integrating mechanical designs with embedded electronics.
