This unit features 22 individual rooms across 2 hallways designed to care for adult patients requiring acute medical intervention. H3O3 cares for patients with various respiratory diseases such as pulmonary hypertension, cystic fibrosis, and lung transplant patients. They also see patients with varying medical conditions like GI disorders, cardiac disease, and endocrine disorders.
Clin Techs at The Johns Hopkins Hospital provide highly skilled and compassionate patient and family-centered care as a contributing member of the health care team. Ongoing education is provided to all Patient Care Technicians to ensure that all techs perform at the highest level of their certification and scope of practice. Position Summary:
As an essential duty & primary role - this position requires that all LT-CP's utilize their phlebotomy skills on a regular basis. A majority of scheduled shifts will be assigned to and performing specimen collection/phlebotomy, direct patient contact.
Performs various specimen collection and phlebotomy techniques in the collection of specimens for Inpatients and/or Outpatients. May perform laboratory tests/ waived laboratory tests, including, but not limited to, Occult and Gastric Blood tests, Urine pH and Urine Volume. The processing of samples includes the accessioning, receiving, liquating, and labeling samples, as well as participating in the review of these laboratory duties. May operate and maintain automated pre-analytical instrumentation and participate in inventory management. Ensures the accuracy of all data entry and processed specimens. Responsible for initiating or verifying that the correct action is taken to resolve all specimen collection and specimen processing problems. Reviews lab requisitions for accuracy and collects and performs data entry of pertinent clinical, patient demographics, and insurance/payment information (when applicable).
Adheres to procedures and protocols for verifying patient identifiers and all assigned activities. Demonstrates excellent customer service and safe & compassionate patient care at all times. Trains others bedside or at collection stations.
May perform data entry, processing of specimens, both for in-house and referrals; billing functions, and all patient registration and pre-analytic set ups (may be required to process lab payments). Maintains high level of competency for all skills and knowledge required. Serves as a mentor, and works in support of associated department initiatives, projects, and training. May serve as “charge tech” for processing and phlebotomy when trained/assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent including high school level course work in biology, chemistry, and mathematics and the completion of accredited phlebotomy training which precludes certification eligibility*.
*To be eligible for ASCP-PBT certification you must complete a NAACLS approved phlebotomy program including clinical rotation/internship within the last five years, or completed a formal two part phlebotomy training program within the last five years (40 hours classroom and 100 venipunctures and 25 skin punctures), or be certified in another allied health profession (RN, LPN, MT, etc) which included formal phlebotomy training and completion of 100 venipunctures and 25 skin punctures.
Work Experience:
Two or more years on-the-job or outside experience as a Phlebotomist. Certification required.
Advancement to Lab Tech-Certified Phlebotomist is possible for current staff meeting all minimum eligibility requirements and following the successful completion of at least two years of JHH employment in Lab Tech/Phlebotomy positions, or having met the two-year full-time years' experience to include at least 6 months JHH employment when included with prior experience. Employee must have no active discipline on file to be considered for advancement. Advancement processed following approval by management, submission of necessary documentation to Human Resources by supervisor, and completed verification of certification. Employee is responsible for maintaining certification at all times to remain in LT-CP position.

As a Clinical Dialysis Tech I, you will prepare, operate, and maintain equipment used for hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and water treatment. Initiate and discontinue hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis treatments, monitor the patient and equipment during the dialysis treatment, and perform other select dialysis-related procedures. Assist the physician with line placements and renal biopsies. Maintain inventory and reorder supplies.
Responsibilities:
+ Provide patient care under the direction of the registered nurse. Follows all recommended precautions and isolation procedures.
+ Apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints. Apply monitor leads and place patient on monitor.
+ Place the patient on prescribed oxygen therapy and obtain pulse oximeter reading.
+ Follow unit protocol regarding the setup of the portable reverse osmosis unit.
+ Set up hemodialysis machines and prime dialyzer and blood tubing.
+ Initiate and discontinue hemodialysis treatments per established procedure. Monitor the patient and equipment during the hemodialysis procedure, respond to machine alarms, and problem solve as necessary.
+ Obtain blood work from AV fistulas, AV grafts, and double-lumen dialysis catheters.
+ Perform machine breakdown, cleaning, and sterilization.
+ Set up peritoneal dialysis machine and prime tubing. May initiate and discontinue peritoneal dialysis treatments per established procedure after completing peritoneal dialysis training. Monitor the patient and equipment during the peritoneal dialysis procedure, respond to machine alarms, and problem solve as necessary. May perform daily peritoneal dialysis exit site care, sterile peritoneal dialysis tubing changes, and obtain fluid samples after peritoneal training completion.
+ May assist with line insertions and other select procedures as needed.
+ Follow procedures for standard precautions and hazardous substances.
+ Perform unit testing/monitoring of equipment and record results.
+ Perform routine safety and maintenance procedures on water treatment systems to maintain water quality according to AMMI standards.
+ Identify equipment malfunctions, pull equipment from service, inform the bioengineering technician, and facilitate repairs.
+ Perform work in a timely and productive manner.
+ Maintain ample stock of supplies within patient care areas/unit.

Shift- Monday-Friday 1pm-9:30, no weekends. About Our Unit * 32-bed Preoperative (Pre-Op) and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), with this position primarily based in the PACU * Care for an average of 35-50 patients per day * Serve patients of all ages, from newborns through young adults (up to 25 years old)
* Support all pediatric surgical and procedural services, including Radiology and the Cardiovascular Lab
* Care for both ambulatory surgery patients and more complex surgical patients who may be admitted to the Children's Center, including ICU-level care
* Provide overnight care for patients requiring extended post-surgical observation
* Staff a new Pediatric Sedation Service - PCTs will receive training to work in the Pediatric Sedation Room
PCT Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
* Admitting patients, including vital signs, oxygen setup, assessments, intake & output, and IV placement/removal
* Preparing patients for surgery and assisting with the discharge process
* Transporting monitored patients to inpatient units and unmonitored patients to hospital exit
* Assisting with procedures as needed
* Performing point-of-care testing (HCG, blood glucose)
