Suburban Hospital, a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or PA to join our Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) team. Our CVICU provides specialized care for patients with severe cardiovascular conditions, and we are looking for a motivated professional to contribute to our patient-centered approach.
Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive care to critically ill cardiovascular patients in the CVICU.
Perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under the supervision of attending physicians.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including surgeons, cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
Monitor and evaluate patient progress, adjusting care plans as necessary.
Educate patients and their families about their conditions, treatments, and post-discharge care.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the continuous enhancement of patient care standards.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities in the electronic health record system.
Qualifications:
Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program.
Current certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of Maryland.
Previous experience in a critical care setting, preferably in cardiovascular intensive care.
Strong clinical skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The Registered Nurse - Forensic Nurse Examiner (RN-FNE) participates as a member of the Sexual Assault Forensic Nurse Examiner (SAFE) program, providing victims of sexual assault and intimate partner violence with sensitive, coordinated, and patient-centered care. The RN-FNE provides the forensic medical exam in all cases of sexual assault and intimate partner violence as requested by victim or law enforcement, and provides emergency and prophylactic care and information regarding proper medical follow-up for reported and non-reported cases of sexual assault and intimate partner violence that present Howard County Medical Center.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
BSN or complete a BSN program within 4 years of their hire date with steady progress toward degree completion. Steady progress is defined as a minimum of 9 credits per calendar year from the time they begin course work.
RNs who are not yet enrolled in a BSN program must apply to and be accepted into a BSN program within six months of hire, with course work to begin promptly after acceptance. 2+ years of RN experience as a SAFE Nurse strongly preferred.

Evaluates specificity and completeness of physician documentation to ensure optimal coding (e.g. mortality outcomes using APR-DRG, SOI and ROM, appropriate reduction of complications based on PSI and HAC, revenue assurance outcomes based on reimbursement DRG (MS-DRG), documentation of significant chronic conditions affecting resource utilization based on HCC).
Summarizes audit findings for individual records along with specific documentation guidelines to improve expected clinical outcomes for an individual physician, physician practice, or specialty.
Conducts follow-up audits (i.e. concurrent or post-discharge) with routine feedback until documentation practice comes into line with expected clinical outcomes.
Works with Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Director and Lead Auditor on other work related to physician audits and education programs.
Demonstrates proficiency with Cobius to access external audit work, record summary results and upload appeal letters.
Demonstrates proficiency with Encompass 360 and HDM audit functions to review electronic medical records with advanced functions (i.e. ex, auto-suggest and search) and record detail coding audit results.
Showcases proficiency in reviewing records in Epic electronic medical records - which may be the only option for audits of older records.
Demonstrates proficiency in writing effective appeal letters that include appropriate coding guidelines and medical references.
Identifies trends in external audit findings related to coding quality and physician documentation. Prepares educational communications related to these findings.
Evaluates physicians' documentation, diagnostic reports, and clinical findings for validation of diagnoses.
Processes the requests for second opinion reviews when clinical validity is not supported or in question.

Minimum Qualifications:
Certification: Certified Coding Specialist / Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist; ACDIS/AHIMA certification, CCDS or CDIP

The Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPCU) is a 32 bed adult inpatient surgical unit. The unit offers 3 levels of care: floor, telemetry, and intermediate care for acute cardiac, vascular, and other surgical patients requiring cardiac monitoring. Care and services provided: coronary artery bypass, Heartmate© II or III & Heartware© mechanical circulatory support devices, valve replacement or repairs, Type A & B aortic dissections, fem-pop bypass, scalenectomy, TAVR, heart or lung transplantation. During the week there is an experienced resource nurse available to assist with admissions/discharges, transport monitoring, and emergencies. Requirements:
* BSN Preferred.
* RNs without a BSN must enroll in a BSN program and complete the degree within 4 years of their start date.
* Minimum of one (1) year of experience preferred.
* Previous critical care (ICU, ICU Stepdown, ER, IR) experience preferred.
* Infusion experience highly desired.
Licensure/Certification:
* Current Maryland RN license or licensure in a compact state that allows practice in Maryland.
* Current DC RN license or willingness to acquire licensure.
* CPR required.
* Valid driver's license, auto insurance, and working vehicle required.

Joining our Med/Surg Oncology Unit means being right at the patient's bedside along one of our Nurses, fully immersed in meaningful patient care. As a CNE, you will:
* Monitor vital signs and assist with routine assessments
* Support activities of daily living (ADLs)
* Track accurate intake and output (I&Os)
* Collaborate with nursing staff to deliver safe, compassionate care
* Contribute as an essential member of a high-performing clinical team
Our nursing students are known for their commitment to safety, excellence, and a passion for improving patient outcomes through evidence-based practice.
Shifts Varies: 36 to 40 hours/week during the 10 week Summer Immersion.

Qualifications:
* Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing

* Possess a passing grade in Fundamentals/Introduction in Nursing course
* Required to attend all hospital, nursing, and unit orientations which occur during the first 10 weeks of employment. (36 hours/week) June 1st-August 8th
