Position Overview:
* Assumes responsibility of echocardiographic testing in the cardiovascular department.
* Includes but not limited to all 2D echocardiograms and transesophageal echocardiograms (TEEs).
* Insures proper and economical use of equipment, supplies and other clinical resources employed in the delivery of quality patient care and maintains appropriate records and files.
Location:
* Johns Hopkins Suburban Hospital is located in Bethesda, MD.
Schedule:
* 7:00 AM-5:30 PM Monday- Friday. (4) 10-hour shifts with rotating day off; on-call required
Pay Rate:
* Starting at $48.00 per hour (Based on experience).

* General Job Knowledge - Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, use of equipment and hospital and departmental policies necessary for job performance.
* Performs all 2D echos, transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE) and stress echo tests.
* Maintains and insures proper use of equipment: including proper notification to repair service;proper upkeep of Echo machines and probes.
* Orders all supplies; ensures non-invasive equipment and supplies are available for TEE's.
* Communicates with non-invasive and cardiac OR as needed.
* Delivers quality care and maintains appropriate related records and files.
* Enters charges into billing program for both inpatients and outpatients.
* Performs accurate documentation procedures; utilizes the computer and filing system.
* Responds to stats for in/outpatients in a timely manner.
* Maintains necessary documentation for certification of Echo Lab.
* Other duties as assigned.
* Associates degree required, Bachelor of Science degree preferred.
* Registered in Maryland as an RCVT (Registered Cardiovascular Tech) or RDCS.
* Echocardiograph certification required.
* CPR BLS required.
* Minimum of 5 years experience performing echocardiograms, in a Hospital setting.

* ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Performs echocardiograms in accordance with lab standards while meeting daily volume expectations. Responds to emergent exams is a timely manner. Follows department workflows for reporting, billing and standard daily performance.
* Ensures patient care is provided in clean, safe, quiet, and secure environment. Renders excellent patient care to patients and families. All hospital related interactions are courteous and confidential and in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to deliver developmental and age-appropriate care to patients.
* Participates in staff meetings, research studies, quality assurance activities and working groups. Cooperates and assists in obtaining institutional, divisional and departmental initiatives and goals.
* Assists in the teaching of students and new technicians.
* Assesses ultrasound images for identification of problem areas for focused review of images and data.
* Oversees the daily operation of echocardiograph services and equipment.
* Assists with creating and updating policies and procedures related to echocardiography.
* Ensures continuing education requirements are met.
* Demonstrates knowledge of noninvasive cardiac diagnostic testing as well as operation and maintenance of equipment including electrocardiograms and holter/event monitor application.

* LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
* Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in Pediatric Echocardiography by The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required or registry eligible and obtainment of registration within 12 months of employment.
* RDCS (PE) certification by the ARDMS is highly preferred.
* Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in Adult Echocardiography by The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) registry eligible and obtainment of registration within 90 days of hire.
* MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
* Completion of an accredited Cardiac Ultrasound program (Bachelors or Associates Degree). In lieu of degree, will consider high school diploma or equivalent with applicable experience.

Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and takes appropriate action to resolve them while producing the most desirable outcome, as evidence by exam results and patient satisfaction. Demonstrates proper technique for injection of IV contrast, or other test-enhancing solution, under the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography Standards. Ensures rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies and has required supplies readily available for procedures.
Correctly identifies patients and appropriate orders, ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the lack of mismatched studies. Maintains active credential status by complying with continual education requirements. Attends at least 50 percent of QA conferences.
Demonstrates patient safety in department by use of side rails, braking mechanisms and patient monitoring as demonstrated by risk management. Reports, documents and corrects any adverse, unsafe or unusual conditions, as evidenced by documentation in the tracking system. Demonstrates proper care and aseptic cleaning of all patient related equipment following established department policies to ensure the quality of care provided to patients.
Troubleshoots equipment effectively and reports equipment to biomedical engineering/vendor, as evidenced by service reports. Performs/recognizes need for routine maintenance of echo vascular equipment for consistency of quality images, as evidenced by the physician and the exam results.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited school/program of diagnostic medical sonography or five years of specialized training in a hospital/healthcare setting.
License: ARDMS Registered with RDCS Certification or CCI Registered with RCS Certification for Echo, or ARDMS with RVT or CCI with the RVS Certification for Vascular.

Nationally registered as an RCS (Registered Cardiac Sonographer) through CCI or RDCS (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) through ARDMS.
Requires 2 years of experience performing echocardiograms, in a Hospital setting preferred.
CPR required
Hours: Casual/On Call; Day Shift - 6 hrs per week (1-3 shifts per month is the minimum requirement)
Salary Range: Minimum 58.00/hour - Maximum 58.00/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
