Ability to work safely with hazardous waste and chemicals, per regulations Minimum Qualifications Education: An earned associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution, preferred OR an earned high school diploma and some completed education or training in related science or medical technology courses from an accredited institution. This education must include coursework in medical laboratory technology courses OR science courses that includes chemistry, biology, or chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination. Experience: A minimum of one year experience in a Surgical Pathology or Histopathology grossing room or equivalent. Individual must have at least 3 months documented laboratory training. A Little More About What You Will be Doing The Instrument Technician is responsible for cleaning and reprocessing a variety endoscopes and accessories, use of the reprocessing machine and all related functions, and maintaining a safe and clean working environment. Assists with cleaning other patient care related equipment including gurneys, stretchers and other equipment and items following infection control policies and procedures. Primary duties and responsibilities: Performs and maintains the reprocessing of endoscopes and scope washers. Identifies problems with equipment and assists in arranging for repairs. Maintains documentation related to the inventory and repair of endoscopes. Demonstrates an awareness of the daily schedule and maintains a steady level of efficiency. Maintains compliance with regulatory standards (OSHA, BBP and biohazard waste removal), accreditation standards, standard methodologies and Center policy and procedures that impact patient, employee and environmental safety, and reports observations of non-compliance. Implements related infection control practices to prevent cross-contamination. Performs manual and mechanical cleaning methods, cleaning implements and equipment (automated flushing systems and re-processors). Performs pre-cleaning and transport of used scopes and accessories. Use of high standard disinfectants (chemicals, use of test strips, exposure time, shelf and use life). Demonstrates a solid understanding of endoscopic supplies and equipment. Performs leakage testing procedures, test methods, and actions required following a failed leak test. Accurately completes all required logs. Orders and stocks supply and medical inventory. Participates in the Center's QAPI program. Education: High school diploma or GED preferred. Completion of a formal or on the job endoscope reprocessing training program and ability to demonstrate proficiency preferred. Experience: One (1) year of experience in Sterile Processing or Surgical Technologist experience to include decontamination, wrapping, sterilization and infection control of basic instrumentation or related field preferred.

Work Experience: * A minimum of one year of related laboratory experience or healthcare setting is required. * A clinical internship as a part of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology program will be counted as one year of clinical experience. Without the completion of a college degree and/or NAACLS accredited Histotechnology program and certification, a minimum 1 year of clinical histology work experience with at least six months JHH laboratory is required. * Advancement to this position is possible for staff in the Histo Tech Prep Tech who complete minimum requirements for eligibility as a HT1, complete education steps, and have achieved annual performance reviews of "met expectations" or higher.
