We are seeking talented technical students for an internship in APL's Multi-Domain System Concepts Group to conduct simulation and analysis, identify defensive systems gaps, and develop new system concepts to revolutionize defensive capabilities for the U.S. You would apply math, engineering, and physics knowledge to implement models and simulations and analyze new concepts including sensors, battle management and communications systems, and kinetic and non-kinetic defensive systems. You will learn how to conduct analysis, algorithm development, optimization, and modeling and simulation of a wide variety of U.S. Navy, Missile Defense, and Space systems. You will be mentored by our full-time staff on one of their projects.

* Your primary responsibility will be contributing to the development and assessment of Missile Defense systems.
* You will model, analyze, and perform assessments of fielded systems and find opportunities for improvement, propose and develop innovative concepts/algorithms to improve capabilities, and conduct analysis to assess potential future systems performance.
* You may conduct parametric analyses using high performance computing capabilities.
* You will develop presentations to effectively communicate technical recommendations to APL leadership, government sponsors, and the engineering community.

* Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Job Summary:
This internship is designed to provide STEM students in their baccalaureate years with experience working with the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Applied Water Science Laboratory team, which includes microbiology, chemistry, and instrumentation. Additionally, the program seeks to increase the diversity of scientists involved in conservation and aquatic animal science.
Students will assist water science laboratory staff with instrument calibration and maintenance, daily rounds, chemistry and microbiology testing, and participate in laboratory safety training, as required. They will also observe and assist applied water science staff, including aquatic life support operators, data management, and the environmental discharge management to facilitate a better understanding of these aspects of applied water science at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The student is required to design, implement, and present a final project pertinent to the Aquarium and Applied Water Science at the conclusion of the internship.
The work environment includes, but is not limited to, behind the scenes areas, the Water Science Laboratory, and office time. It may include work in wet, slippery areas, hot and humid areas, variable temperatures, and varying weather conditions. Locations may also vary between the Monterey Bay Aquarium, various off-site facilities, and field sites around Monterey Bay.

Weekend work is unavailable as the lab operates Monday-Friday.
Hourly rate: $18.00 USD

SBCS' Community Assessment Team (CAT) & Juvenile Diversion (JD) program works to keep kids in school and out of the Juvenile Justice System by providing early intervention/prevention to youth and families. Embedded in the Youth Prevention & Intervention (YPI) Team, the program provides an array of support services for first-time youth offenders, runaways, youth on Probation, and non-offenders and their families.
Position Summary:
The Community Assessment Team (CAT) & Juvenile Diversion (JD) Youth and Family Development Associate (YFDA) under the supervision of the Program Coordinator & Program Director is responsible for providing intervention services to school age youth (ages 6-18), who may be at risk of entering the justice system. Services will be in keeping with agency goals, objectives, mission, and style and provided within a team framework. The CAT & JD YFDA works one on one with youth building a relationship of trust, empowering the youth, addressing their needs, developing skills and realistic goals, and providing positive opportunities to avoid justice system processing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide various direct one on one services when working with at-risk youth including Individualized trauma-informed case management and working with youth and their families to connect them with needed resources. Some of the resources they may be connected to include individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, advocacy, support, and other services.
Complete comprehensive family-based assessments for identified youth and develop strength-based service plans including goals and objectives.
Coordinate with police, probation, and other agencies for continual service of clients, including presentations to other service agencies.
Facilitate group sessions and/or presentations on topics such as youth leadership, anger management, parenting skills, independent living skills, and gang involvement prevention, if needed.
Meet assigned scope of service and maintenance of case files and assist in writing of quarterly and annual reports including accurate and timely submissions of required reports.
Maintain documentation, data collection and contract compliance of client records in the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database as required by SBCS and its funding sources.
Complete monthly statistical reports of services provided as required by SBCS.

Program
SBCS' Youth Development Academy (YDA) is a partnership with San Diego County Probation Department to provide evidence informed, pro-social, and developmentally appropriate programming to youth in custody at East Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility. This program serves youth ages 14- to 24-years old who have been committed to long-term sentences for serious felony offenses. The Youth Development Academy uses a trauma-informed, positive youth development model to support the youth and families we serve while in custody, and as they transition back to the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Program Coordinator, the Youth & Family Development Associate (YFDA) will work closely with the Coordinator to provide assessment driven, strength-based treatment plans to guide their treatment while in custody and upon release from custody. The YFDA will be responsible for collaborating with the other members of the youth team, including Probation Officer, Behavior Health Clinician, and service providers to inform his/her/their treatment. The YFDA will also be responsible for engaging the youth's family and/or supports both in the facility and the community through home visits. Services will be in keeping with agency goals, objectives, mission, and style and provided within a team framework. Associates are responsible for working with the team in developing team goals and objectives and in meeting those goals and objectives, including but not limited to:
Responsibilities:
Provide case management services to youth sentenced to YDA for committing a serious felony offense.
Complete comprehensive assessments, as determined appropriate.
Develop strength-based, individualized service plans for each youth residing in YDA.
Provide quality trauma-informed and Positive Youth Development principles to participants. Nurture a therapeutic environment through interactions with the youth and partners in the facility.
Collaborate with multiple professionals (e.g., job navigator, reentry specialist, Probation Officer) to develop and implement service plan.
Provide ongoing support and supervision of youth participating in programs.
Conduct weekly one-on-one coaching and service planning meetings with youth while in custody.
Identify services, resources, job, and school supports for youth upon release and help facilitate enrollment.
Provide access to reentry case manager for youth and family for six-months post-release.
Maintain case records and client files in the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database as required by SBCS and Probation.
Provide safe, secure transportation to clients upon their release.
Provide crisis intervention to clients as needed.
Facilitate evidence-based groups as needed and appropriate.
Completion of reports, and communication with colleagues regarding shift updates and other required documents in a timely manner.

Requirements

Program:
SBCS's Achievement Center provides a spectrum of center-based support services to help youth on probation remain in compliance with court orders, avoid re-offending, and to reach their full potential. The program also provides youth with opportunities for pro-social activities, games and free time, educational groups, restorative circles, music engineering & production, and career & job readiness & education. Youth on formal probation are referred by their Probation Officer to attend the Achievement Center (AC) from 20 to 45 program days. This allows them an opportunity to remain in the community while being involved in a continuum of pro-social support and programs. Community youth, not on Probation, can also be referred to attend the Achievement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Youth and Family Development Associate under the supervision of the Program Coordinator and Program Director is responsible for providing services to SBCS' youth on probation and the Community who may be at-risk for future or continued involvement in the juvenile justice system. Services will be in keeping with agency goals, objectives, mission and style and provided within a team framework. Associates are responsible for working with the team in developing team goals and objectives and in meeting those goals and objectives. Due to the nature of the workflow and client needs, the Direct Care Staff maintains a flexible schedule. He/she is directly accountable to the Program Manager.

Coordinate family supports and services, refer and connect youth and family to public and private services and resources.

Develop action plans and creative strategies to maximize all fundraising opportunities in collaboration with the Head of School and Associate Head of School
Work collaboratively with members of the One School Senior Leadership Team and the Advancement Team to design and implement initiatives that support the school's strategic priorities and institutional advancement goals
Collaborate with the Business Office to manage and oversee all gift processing, donor database management, acknowledgment tracking, and financial reporting related to fundraising efforts, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and timelines
Develop and implement recognition strategies and personalized expressions of gratitude to donors, including follow-up communications that demonstrate the impact of philanthropic support

Qualifications

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked.
