The Kingsbury Center company history timeline

1952

In 1952, just as a neighboring farmer was preparing to tear down the old schoolhouse to use the lumber for a chicken coop, Kingsbury was saved.

1953

In September, 1953, Kingsbury School re-opened as an independent school.

1955

Carlton Higbie died in 1955, but Mrs.

1960

During the Woolworth fire on January 12, 1960, the Kresge store suffered only smoke damage.

1971

In 1971, Kingsbury was incorporated in Michigan as a non-profit educational corporation, and the affiliation with Buckley ended.

1975

Also in 1975, the Kingsbury Plan was adopted.

1980

On the night of July 5, 1980, the venerable Kingsbury Block burned down.

1998

The Kingsbury Building, designated a Shaker Heights Landmark in February of 1998, is an example of the small commercial zones that were integrated into this vision for the Van Sweringen's suburb.

2002

West Gallogly, remained an active part of the school life until a short time before her death in 2002.

2008

2015

Calvary Temple remained in this building until the church relocated in January 2015.

2016

In August, 2016, the Sandusky City Commission voted to move a significant number of city administrative offices to the Kingsbury Block (planned upgrades shown here).
