The Kinkaid School company history timeline

1906

The School was founded in 1906 by Margaret Hunter Kinkaid.

1910

By 1910, the school had outgrown the Kinkaids’ one-story house, so a second floor was added.

1920

Kinkaid also added its upper school program beginning in the late 1920s.

1924

The growing student body and the need for direction in school affairs led to the appointment of the first Board of Trustees in 1924.

1938

Moving to the new campus allowed for an expanded club system as well as an athletics program for both boys and girls. It also provided the infrastructure for an Upper School curriculum, with the first high school graduating class matriculating in 1938.

1951

Kinkaid was the headmistress of the School from its founding until 1951.

1957

Since 1957 and through the present day, the School has been situated on a 40-acre (160,000 m) site in the city of Piney Point Village, an enclave of Houston, at the junction of 201 Kinkaid School Drive and San Felipe.

1970

Beginning in 1970, Kinkaid adopted what was known as an "open enrollment" policy.

1972

Cooper left to co-found The John Cooper School in Woodlands in 1972.

1979

Glenn Ballard hit the ground running during the summer of 1979, before school opened.

1988

He earned such a strong reputation at Kinkaid that he was invited in 1988 to become Headmaster of Durham Academy in Durham, North Carolina.

1996

Glenn Ballard’s retirement in 1996 signaled the end of yet another era of outstanding leadership at The Kinkaid School.

2011

In 2011, the School purchased a 25-acre tract adjacent to the current campus to allow for future growth.

2013

Doctor Andrew D. Martire began his service to Kinkaid in the summer of 2013.

2014

In 2014, Andy Martire oversaw a $25 million campaign to build a four-story parking garage and dining and learning center.

2015

Construction for both projects began in 2015.

2016

The parking garage opened in the spring of 2016, nearly doubling campus parking to 1,000 spots relieving parking issues the School dealt with for many years.

2018

The School’s Board of Trustees announced Doctor Martire’s departure in an email in June 2018.
