Summary: The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating various types of heavy machinery to perform earthmoving and site preparation tasks. This role requires experience operating bulldozers, excavators, and other power-driven equipment. Familiarity with Grade Control systems is preferred. The Heavy Equipment Operator will work as part of a construction crew to support excavation, grading, and material movement operations in compliance with safety regulations and project specifications. Responsibilities: * Operate heavy machinery, including bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, track hoes, front-end loaders, and other related equipment. * Adjust machine settings and controls to complete tasks accurately and efficiently according to project specifications. * Interpret hand signals and verbal instructions from spotters and supervisors to position materials correctly. * Perform grading, excavation, trenching, and land clearing activities while maintaining precise elevations and slopes. * Utilize Grade Control systems (if applicable) to improve efficiency and accuracy. * Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, and supplies as needed. * Perform daily pre-operation inspections and complete the Daily Equipment Inspection Checklist to ensure the proper functioning of machinery. * Conduct minor maintenance, cleaning, and servicing of equipment to maintain operational efficiency. * Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards and all company policies while working on active construction sites. * May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials during installation processes. * Work on uneven terrain and in varying weather conditions while maintaining control of equipment. * Maintain awareness of surrounding crew members, utilities, and structures to operate machinery safely. * Support other craft workers and assist with manual labor tasks as needed. * Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or project manager. Qualifications: * Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of experience operating heavy equipment on civil construction projects. * Preferred Skills: Experience working with Grade Control systems (e.g., Trimble, Topcon, Leica) is a plus. * Physical Requirements: * Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. * Frequent repetitive use of hands, arms, and legs. * Strong hand-eye coordination and depth perception are required for precise operation. * Must be able to sit for prolonged periods while operating machinery. * Ability to climb and maintain balance on equipment. * Must be able to work in various outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, and uneven terrain. * Ability to drive and operate company vehicles, forklifts, and other construction equipment as needed. * Communication Skills: Must be able to give and receive directions effectively for safe and productive job site operations. * Safety Compliance: Understanding of construction site safety procedures and regulations. * Education: High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. Physical Demands & Work Conditions: * Work is primarily outdoors on active construction sites with exposure to dust, noise, and weather conditions. * Must be able to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment with extended hours as needed. * May require travel between job sites based on project needs.
