MSG Entertainment company history timeline

2010

In February 2010, Cablevision spun off the MSG properties, including the sports franchises, into The Madison Square Garden Company.

2013

In October 2013, The World’s Most Famous Arena became the world’s most state-of-the-art with the completion of a 3-year, top-to-bottom transformation, ensuring that Madison Square Garden will continue to be the site of historic, unforgettable live experiences for generations to come.

2014

In January 2014, Billy Joel became Madison Square Garden’s first-ever music franchise.

2015

In July 2015, Joel played his 65th show at MSG—setting a new record for the most performances by any artist at The Garden.

On September 30, 2015, the MSG Networks division (including MSG Network) and the main MSG operation were both split as two separate companies.

2019

The Company reported revenue of $1.6 billion in the year ended June 30, 2019.

On November 7, 2019, The Madison Square Garden Company, a world leader in live sports and entertainment experiences, had announced that its board of directors has unanimously approved pursuing a revised plan for the proposed separation of its sports and entertainment businesses.

There will certainly be significant opportunities in legalized sports betting markets with New Jersey having legalized sports betting and New York expected to legalize sports betting in 2019.

2020

In February 2020, Forbes has revalued the New York Knicks at $4.6 billion, which was earlier valued at $4.0 billion.

2021

Due to the current crisis, the opening of the Las Vegas Sphere will be extended beyond 2021.
