What you'll do
The PhysicalTherapist works directly with individuals to restore or improve physical abilities, promote behavioral changes, adapt surroundings, and/or teach new skills, to achieve optimal physical function and prevent disabilities, in accordance with principles and practices of the profession. The PhysicalTherapist may provide evaluation and treatment of patients in acute care, nursing home, short-term rehabilitation and/or outpatient settings. The PhysicalTherapist oversees services provided by Physical Therapy Assistants and aides. They are required to work as part of a multi-disciplinary care team. They may assist in quality improvement and new programming initiative development. This position reports to the Rehab Supervisor, Rehab Manager and Director of Rehabilitation Services.
* Maintains licensure by obtaining required CEUs as determined by NYS Practice Act
* Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state and local requirements and Joint Commission (TJC) standards.
* Performs a comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and safety assessment as evidenced by clinical documentation. Identifies those functional problems that require physical therapy intervention based on an accurate assessment of the patients status.
* Must be capable of understanding and carrying out prescribed therapy services as requested by physicians and/or midlevel providers.
* Develops a plan of care to promote optimum function and safety, as documented in the clinical record.
* Completes all required documentation following evaluation, treatment and procedures and ensures that documentation reflects care provided and outcomes achieved.
* Demonstrates the ability to evaluate and treat the assigned number of patients per day, and determine the need for follow up visits to maximize the functional outcomes
* Maintains current knowledge and awareness of insurance regulations related to provision of therapy services
* Acts fiscally responsible in use & request of supplies, and in submitting patient charges in a timely manner.
* Ability to handle and operate therapy equipment, including but not limited to: safe patient handling equipment, exercise machines, and/or modalities
* Coordinates patient care with other clinical team members ensuring optimal patient care and communication
* Maintains and enhances personal and professional knowledge, as well as promotes professional standards in physical therapy
* Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
* Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives.

What we need from you
Education:
* 4 Year/Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited College or University, required

The Exercise Specialist develops an appropriate exercise and education program for cardiac and pulmonary patients. Designs individualized strength, balance and flexibility programs, monitors patients' responses to exercise and ensures safety.

1. Reviews requisitions for Physical Therapy.
a. Interviews patients, evaluates patient's physical condition and needs.
2. Develops a program of corrective exercise and treatment for assigned patients.
a. Determines proper equipment usage, application and body position, adjusting as necessary in the administration of such treatments as exercise, gait training, soft tissue mobility, whirlpool, hot packs, ultrasound, paraffin, ice packs, electrical stimulation, and traction.
b. Instructs patients on segments of the program including proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic appliances and devices.
c. Recommends modification or changes in the patient's program based on own evaluation of progress.
d. Confers as necessary with physicians concerning alternatives available.
3. Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, treatment plans, progress reports and discharge summaries.
4. Communicates observations, facts and comments with nursing and interdisciplinary team members to ensure efficient coordination of the overall health care plan.
5. Provides guidance and direction to those staff members assigned to assist in patient care.
6. Maintains department policies, procedures, objectives, and quality initiative program, safety and infection control.
a. Adheres to hospital wide safety responsibilities:
1. Maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors and other employees.
2. Maintains a working knowledge of all hospital safety policies and procedures (including fire safety and disaster protocol).
3. Follows all safety practices on equipment.
4. Uses all safety devices on equipment and insures it is in proper working condition.
5. Wears safety clothing, glasses, gloves, shoes, etc. when required and respects "Universal Precautions" as indicated.
6. Reports any unsafe act or condition to his/her supervisor.
7. Attends safety programs when they are conducted.
b. Is familiar with and adheres to "Policy and Procedure" manual for the department.
c. Assists where indicated in assisting the Clinical Coordinator with quality initiative indicators.
7. Assists in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
8. Attends meetings as required and participate on committees as directed.
9. Assists in transport of patients to and from PT Department as the need should arise.
10. Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Senior Therapists in his/her absence.
11. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, workshops, etc.
12. Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.
13. Provides age appropriate care to neonate, infant, children, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
14. Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer's needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Arnot Health.

EDUCATION:
Must be licensed, or eligible to obtain a license, to practice physical therapy in NYS at the time of hire.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Responsibilities:
Provide prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.

Apply braces, tapes, and protective equipment as needed.
Maintain complete and accurate documentation of injuries and treatments.
Coordinate care and follow-up appointments with physicians and rehab staff.

Assist with onboarding of new athletic training contracts and data collection for program growth.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a health-related field required.
National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) certification required.
1-2 years of athletic training experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:
