What you'll do Job Summary Under the direction of the Cardiovascular Imaging Medical Director and Cardiovascular Imaging Manager perform prompt, courteous hemodynamic monitoring, accurate documentation and recording of all Cardiac, Vascular and Radiological procedural hemodynamics and equipment usage. Perform invasive technical diagnostic procedures and support for patients in the outpatient, inpatient and acute care setting. Maintains inventory and stock for the Cardiovascular Imaging suites. Expected to participate on the Cardiovascular Imaging On Call Team which will include weekend and holiday coverage as well as weekday coverage. The Registered Professional Nurse Acute Care is accountable for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process. The RN assesses, plans, delivers, coordinates, integrates, and evaluates nursing care related to patient's needs. The RN contributes to the support of patients through interdisciplinary teamwork. The RN I status and job description is only appropriate for a new nurse in the first year of practice, as support from others in incorporated into this role as an expectation. Therefore, all RN I's are expected to complete the requirements of the Nurse Residency program and complete the application and credentialing process for successful advancement to RN II by 12-15 months after hire. Essential Job Functions: * Nursing Responsibilities: * Provides nursing care and services to patients throughout the life span and in various settings consistent with educational preparation. * Collects, analyzes and records relevant patient health data accurately, with no more than 3-5 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback. * Analyzes assessment data to identify patient problems, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation. * Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation * Develops a plan of care that describes interventions to attain expected outcomes, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation * Implements and records interventions appropriate to diagnosis or patient problem, with no more than 3-5 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation * Evaluates the patient's progress toward attainment of identified goals, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by random supervisory chart review and/or direct supervisory observation * Adheres to approved, research-based practice standards, with no more than 2-3 exceptions, as measured by direct supervisory observation and random supervisory chart review * Directs and supervises patient care provided by LPNs and support personnel 100% of the time according to department guidelines, as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation * Demonstrates consideration of safety, effective utilization of equipment and materials, and cost in managing patient care, as measured by direct supervisory observation and co-worker feedback. * (RN I only) Enters accurate documentation (80-100%) of all patient care activities as measured by periodic random preceptor and supervisory chart review as per probationary appraisal schedule * (RN I only) Maintains and documents testing reagents/supplies and equipment according to established laboratory procedures, 100% of the time, as observed by supervisor and POC staff. * Advocates for patients to ensure that care preserves and protects the patient's autonomy, dignity and rights * Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity, 100% of the time, as measured by no significant, substantiated patient or peer complaints received by the manager/supervisor * Assures that patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures, 100% of the time, as measured by random supervisory chart review * Acts on behalf of patients in an ethical manner 100% of the time, as measured by co-worker and patient feedback and managerial observation * Adheres to ANA Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses * Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in his or her area of practice * Provides proof of current licensure validation to supervisor. (To achieve excellence, one must do this in a proactive, timely manner prior to due date) * Completes required unit credentialing according to departmental policy by providing documented evidence of completion to supervisor * (RN I only) Submits complete orientation checklist * Provides to supervisor evidence of completion of all required training and competency validation. (To achieve excellence, one must take personal responsibility for this task and complete by the due date) * Participates in level appropriate number of hours of educational activity, according to pathway, related to job function annually and provides documented evidence of attendance or activity to supervisor. * Participates in nursing research * Commits to an attitude of inquiry, research based practice, and the advancement of nursing science as observed by managerial observation * Helps to identify clinical problems requiring investigation as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation. * Assists in the collection of data within a structured format as measured by co-worker feedback and managerial observation. * Performs other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager. * RN I Acute Care Certification Requirements: ******************************************************************************************************** RCIS Responsibilities: * Assist with evaluation, preparation and after care of patients undergoing cardiac catheterization or interventional procedures and EP testing. * Prepared and skilled with all equipment used during procedures in CVI. * Proficient with monitoring and documentation utilizing physiologic recorder system. * Knowledge demonstrated through maintaining ACLS and emergency life support needs in the CVI. * Monitor and records, processes and interprets intra-cardiac pressures and electrocardiograph signals during procedures; provides immediate notification with observations of changes to provider. * Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives. * Attends variety of meetings, conferences and seminars as required or directed. * Proficient at maintaining sterile work area and capable of setting sterile work tables up for various procedures. * Explains procedures to patients and answers any questions or concerns regarding the test 100% of the time. * Complies with all universal precaution regulations and requirements as measured by supervisory review and/or direct supervisory observation * Collaborates with all departments to assure timely access to services. * Complies, communicates and distributes testing results and patient charges according to protocol. * Demonstrates patient advocacy by assuring patient's rights to privacy, confidentiality and safety. * Utilizes infection control practices and precautions according to Bassett Medical Center Infection Control policies 100% of the time as measured by supervisory observation and feedback from other staff. * Maintains competence through continuing education 100% of the time as noted by the Manager. * Maintains appropriate continuing education credits to keep up licensure 100% of the time as recorded by the Manager. * Treats cath lab equipment supplies with proper care and reports malfunctions as appropriate. * Utilizes and orders supplies, prudently to maximize cost effectiveness of procedures. * Maintains Cath Lab function with regards to appropriate staffing. * Treats customers (Guests, patients, families, physicians and other employees) with respect, courtesy and compassion. * Displays a positive image of Bassett Medical Center by upholding the mission statement and code of ethics * Works cooperatively within the Cardiovascular Imaging and within other departments in the hospital. * Consistently ensures that patient information is kept private and confidential in accordance with hospital and HIPAA policy. * Provides patient records and files to appropriate departments and physicians promptly. * Explains procedures to patients and answers any questions or concerns regarding the test 100% of the time * Performs all duties in accordance to infection control and regulatory policies 100% of the time. What we need from you Education: * Required - 2 Year / Associate Degree in Nursing or... Diploma from Professional Nursing Program. * Required - * All RN's hired and do not currently hold a BSN will be expected to demonstrate enrollment in a bachelor's prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire. BSN must be completed within 10 years. RN's licensed on or before 12/19/17 are/remain exempt from this requirement. * Required - Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or registry eligible at the time of hire. * Preferred - 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Experience: * Required - New graduate or less than 1 year experience as an RN * Preferred - RCIS with special procedure room or operating room experience preferred * Preferred - Broad knowledge of invasive & general cardiology, interventional radiology and peripheral vascular diagnostics and pathophysiology desired. License/Certification: * Required - License - NYS licensure as Registered Nurse or valid interim permit is required (RN I) * Required - Certification - RCIS * Required - Certification - BLS Certification within 6 months from date of hire. * Required - Certification - ACLS Certification within 6 months from date of hire.
