Masterson Foods company history timeline

1848

It all began in 1848, the same year Wisconsin became a state, when Scottish immigrant A.H. Johnston established a confectionery and cracker company right here in Milwaukee.

1920

By 1920-23, a modern Art Deco manufacturing and office facility was constructed by Herman J. Esser to house all Robert A. Johnston’s operations.

1927

Starting in October of 1927, West Milwaukee students were able to attend high school in their own community.

1937

Among the more famous graduates of West Milwaukee High School was Walter Liberace, pianist and entertainer, from the class of 1937.

1940

Up until the late 1940’s, employees would get their silver and spend it in the neighboring shops.

Due to silver coins paid out to employees from our bank-style vault up until the 1940’s, the surrounding area was widely known as “Silver City”. Today, the vault is a mini-museum showcasing the history of our company.
