1987

Montague Corporation was formed in 1987 by David and Harry Montague.

Montague obtained a patent for the bike design and the Concentrus system by 1987.

1988

David Montague and his father started the folding bicycles firm, Montague Corporation, in 1988.

The company began selling in the United States market in 1988.

1989

In 1989, Montague sold around 2,200 BiFrames worldwide.

1991

While producing the BiFrame design, Montague worked closely with the Schwinn Bicycle Company, and in 1991 the Schwinn Montague M1000 was first marketed and sold through Schwinn dealers.

1996

In 1996, the BMW/Montague Mountain bike was chosen as the Official Mountain Bike of the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta.

1997

In 1997, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) gave Montague a two-year grant to develop an all-terrain, heavy-duty, folding electric mountain bike that could be utilized by paratroopers.

1999

In 1999 Montague launched a consumer line of bikes, the X-Series, based on the original Military Bike design.

2001

In 2001, the company released the Paratrooper military mountain bike, which was a commercial, non-electric version of the TENS bike it had developed for DARPA.

2002

In 2002 Montague partnered with General Motors to design and manufacture the HUMMER Tactical Mountain Bike, a version of the Montague’s popular military bike that folds to fit in the back of the Hummer H2.

2007

On top of a single full-time sales representative, in 2007 the corporation had thirty-two salespersons in the United States that were making efforts to broaden the customer base.

In 2007 Montague released a new line of rugged mountain bikes based on the X-Series platform.

2008

In 2008, Montague introduced the SwissBike line which featured the company's first mountain bikes designed for road use, including the SwissBike LX and SwissBike TX Commuter.

2009

By 2009, Montague bikes were being sold in 18 countries with 400 dealers in the United States.

2010

In 2010 Montague debuts a new frame design and with it, an entirely new line of full size, 700c folding bikes.

2011

In 2011 Montague released the Octagon steering system as an after-market component.

In 2011, Montague added to its Pavement bike line with the Boston 8, the first folding bike to incorporate the Shimano Nexus 8 speed internal-gear hub.

2012

Montague also continued releasing new iterations of their Paratrooper line with the Paratrooper Pro in 2012.

2013

In 2013 Montague debuts the Custom line of framesets, making their award winning folding bike frame available individually for the first time.

2015

In 2015 Montague launched the first official Park&Pedal program in the US in conjunction with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, and the Department of Transportation.

2016

The program was expanded to more locales in the Greater Boston area in 2016.

It also launched several new models in 2016 including the Urban, Paratrooper Elite, FIT, and Allston, the first to employ a belt drive in place of a traditional bicycle chain.

Montague introduced a new folding system called "DirectConnect" in 2016.

2017

In 2017 Montague released the Rackstand as an after-market component.
