In late 1946, Henry B. Watkins Sr., a 56-year-old resigned toy manufacturer from Ohio, purchased The Naples Hotel, setting out on an exceptionally effective second resurrection.
The Naples Hotel stayed somewhat profitable for quite a while until the establishment that it was shut down in the 1970’s; although this was not the end for this historic hotel.
The Athens Group purchased the “Beach Club” in 2019 from the Watkins family, who has owned the 125- acre beachfront property for almost 75 years.
Correspondence was started with the Athens Group in August 2020 which, despite our best efforts, failed to achieve any definitive clarity.
Members of the Mary Watkins Tennis Center only began to hear rumors in mid-2020 the centers continued existence in its current form and location, nearly a mile away from the hotel, might be under threat.
