I felt as though the facilities of the Neuromedical Center are better than the standard. The building, the equipment within, and the general knowledge of the practitioners there are all excellent, from what I can ascertain as a contractor in a non-medical position. The surgical, janitorial, and administrative departments were not ones that I had many experiences with, and those I had during my employment were positive. I also observed that the nursing team on the second floor of the hospital seems to have very effective communication and rapport with one another, and that they behave in a friendly and professional manner when interacting with both patients and other staff.
There does not seem to be a channel of recourse for contracted employees who experience bullying or discrimination, as experienced while working with lower-level members of the rehabilitative care staff. I am of a different racial makeup than many of my coworkers, and have experienced alienation and untoward comments about my appearance that went uncorrected, even after reporting. My body type and weight were mentioned frequently. My abilities to perform my job were questioned because of my appearance on multiple occasions. Additionally, I learned on several occasions that attempts were made to fault me for actions that were performed by others when I was away from Baton Rouge entirely. Attempts to contact these employees' supervisor were unsuccessful, and I was continually advised to "put up with it" and told that I would be unlikely to reach a successful resolution by contacting Human Resources. (I highly doubt the verity of that statement, but took it to be true at the time) The situation did not resolve until I was treated for significant psychological issues due to said harassment, after which my direct employer chose to end the contract with the hospital, which resulted in an indirect apology. There has never been an official, direct apology to me from the supervisor of the responsible parties (who have been terminated after the decision to dissolve the contract). I incurred mental and psychological damage that resulted in a 400% increase in psychiatric medication prescription (5mg to 20mg), directly resulting from harassment at work, and feel that my experiences were ignored until the severing my professional relationship with the hospital felt like my only option. Most other people will not be in a position such that they can tell an entire hospital to shove it after this level of abuse.
The nature of my position means that I was not an eligible participant for most relevant aspects of this question. With that said, I have observed that the staff are offered free meals during the employee appreciation week, that the hospital provides regular morale-based events, and that one at least one occasion, additional PTO has been advertised for staff willing to accommodate during emergencies such as weather events. It at least appears that medical and administrative staff here are content with their positions, and I saw the same faces daily for about seven years, which I believe could imply a good retention rate and good employee satisfaction overall.
I have not personally met the current CEO and thusly cannot give information.
I would encourage the staff to learn about neurodevelopmental disorders, and how neurodivergent adults can be less alienated in the workplace, in addition to general racial sensitivity training.
I did not interview. I am a contracted employee and only needed to pass a background check and drug screening, so i cannot provide usable information on this subject.
My individual income was not dependent on the Neuromedical center directly. With that said, I do feel like the overall amount paid monthly to sustain our contract was adequate.
I feel as though the workplace has some level of diversity in that people of different races technically work there together. I cannot say that I truly feel there is a genuinely accepting environment. Unfortunately, the number of people in a building does not necessarily indicate that they are all treated well.
Interacting with administrative staff. At some point, they were the only people I was able to turn to when the harassment became too much for me.
