Mission Overview & Responsibilities:
The New York Times is looking for a part-time Associate Writer to support its fast-growing and expanding games subscription business. You will be responsible for writing content that engage solvers and constructors of our games and puzzles, including the legendary New York Times Crossword, the Spelling Bee and other games.
This is a hybrid role based in our New York City office.

* Write and produce two Wordplay columns a week.
* Help moderate comments on their Wordplay content.
* Engage our community in the comments of your content. Respond to reader feedback and questions.
* Perform related work, such as producing one of our daily forums, writing solving guides or articles about solvers, as assigned

Basic Qualifications:
* 2+ years writing or reporting in a consumer-facing field such as entertainment, news media or games.
* Experience writing for online audiences, with emphasis on writing with empathy for beginner solvers.
* Proficiency with major social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram.
* Basic experience with web production, and basic knowledge of web tools and interfaces.
* Basic knowledge of journalism ethics and standards.

About the role:
The Managing Director of Writing is a critical leader on our in-house marketing team and central to that effort. You will set the creative vision and drive conceptual thinking for a team of 10+ writers and managers, defining a consistent, distinctive New York Times tone of voice that brings our brand to life across marketing, product, and emerging platforms. ● Using Panasonic Kairos, the Director/Operator will code the rundown, operate the production platform, and call/live-switch the show
● Target, operate and shade robotic cameras
● Initiate lighting cues at various positions across different sets
● Set-up, test and implement wireless/wired mics and IFBs
● Prioritize instantly, plan for contingencies, & manage all elements of a production
The ideal candidate will have/be :
● Thorough knowledge of studio and control room operations
● Prior experience with Robotic cameras, broadcast audio consoles, lighting systems, RF mics/IFBs and graphics
● Experience with Panasonic Kairos is a significant plus; candidates fluent in other production platforms can still be considered
● Candidates should have experience working in a state-of-the-art, fast paced, live control room environment
● Experience with Adobe Creative Suite a plus

Are you passionate about video production, from capturing the perfect shot to crafting an
engaging final edit? The arm of the NYP video team that captures and edits anything outside
our studios, with our DSLR cameras, is looking for a Video Production Intern (24 hrs/week) to
assist with field shoots and post-production editing this spring. If you're eager to gain hands-on
experience in digital media and expand your skills in DSLR cinematography and Premiere Pro,
this is the perfect opportunity!
As part of our high-energy, fast-paced video team, you'll work closely with producers to help
film, edit, and produce compelling video content while also contributing to research, writing, and
digital optimization.
Note: This internship is scheduled to run from February 2, 2026 - April 10, 2026 . Participants
are expected to work part time hours and adhere to our on-site work schedule. Open to current
juniors and seniors pursuing a BA, MA students, and recent graduates who completed their
degree within the past year
What You'll Do:
● Assist in field shoots using DSLR cameras
● Help with video editing in Premiere Pro
● Research stories and trends to help shape video content
● Write video headlines and descriptions for digital platforms
● Create thumbnails and promotional assets in Photoshop
● Pull, organize, and maintain video gear for shoots
What We're Looking For:
● A strong interest in video production and digital media
● Basic experience with DSLR cameras and Premiere Pro (Photoshop is a plus!)
● Interest in researching and writing for digital video
● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

About the role:
The Managing Director of Writing is a critical leader on our in-house marketing team and central to that effort. You will set the creative vision and drive conceptual thinking for a team of 10+ writers and managers, defining a consistent, distinctive New York Times tone of voice that brings our brand to life across marketing, product, and emerging platforms. You will lead the team through its next chapter, shaping our product writing practice, and continuing experiments with new technologies like Generative A.I. to enhance our creative capabilities.
This is a leadership role for someone excited to manage an exceptional team, including three direct reports (two of whom are people managers). You will champion the importance of writing and voice across the organization, working collaboratively to design processes that deliver benchmark-quality, creativity, and impact at scale. Responsibilities:
Establish a clear creative vision for the entire marketing writing team, elevating its output from excellent copy to campaign-defining creative concepts and inspiring and guiding writers toward achieving organizational goals and maximizing the team's impact across all business lines.
Set the strategic direction and empower team execution by providing clear context, objectives, business metrics, and rationale. Foster a culture where results, accountability, and creative thinking are valued.

Basic Qualifications:
12+ years of copywriting experience
8+ years managing writing teams, including experience managing managers.
A Bachelor's degree
Experience establishing strategic direction, driving enterprise-level impact, and leading teams through strategic shifts in a dynamic environment.
Exceptional conceptual thinking and editorial judgment, with impeccable writing and editing skills that can shape a brand's voice across a range of surfaces, including brand marketing, growth marketing, and user experience (UX) writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Deep understanding of trends in advertising and media, coupled with thought leadership on the intersection of AI and creativity. You bring a strategic perspective on how to apply new technologies responsibly and effectively in a creative process.

The annual base pay range for this role is between:
$200,000 - $225,000 USD
For roles in the U.S., dependent on your role, you may be eligible for variable pay, such as an annual bonus and restricted stock.
