Job Description
The Ohio Prison Education Exchange Project (OPEEP) at The Ohio State University addresses unjust prohibitions to higher education for those involved in the State of Ohio's criminal justice system by building a robust, interdisciplinary, cross-campus, and sustainable prison education project. OPEEP is expanding its work to include the administration of an accredited embedded Bachelor of Arts degree at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville, Ohio. We are seeking an Education Program Specialist to join our team. This position will be primarily based in Marysville, OH, and will be a one-year term appointment, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and continued availability of funding.
The Education Program Specialist will provide on-site coordination of an embedded Bachelor of Arts degree in Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville, Ohio, a state prison facility for adults. This position supports incarcerated OSU students and OSU faculty teaching at the prison facility, and it offers coordination of all OSU courses, office hours, study groups, and extracurricular activities at the prison. The position will also be responsible for communicating with the prison administration and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) about program and facility requirements, policy, and protocol. Some evening hours will be required.
Responsibilities will include: serve as a liaison between faculty, staff, and students involved in the embedded degree program, including campus students participating in OPEEP courses; coordinate all courses and student activities at the prison, including Canvas software implementation and communications with facility staff and leadership and ODRC program requirements; provide program information to students, faculty, and staff; manage the administrative functions of the degree site, including technology and student Chromebook regulations, space requests, student passes, gate passes, and attendance records; maintain shared workspaces and equipment at ORW, including office and student supplies, printer(s), and inventory of books and learning materials according to ODRC specifications; maintain positive relationships with ODRC and ORW staff, including the prison's school principal; monitor classes and study halls; coordinate the enrollment processes for incarcerated students; serve as the primary contact for prospective students; advise faculty and students on ODRC procedures and policy interpretation; assess and respond to student needs and arrange the provision of academic, financial aid, financial literacy, and study skills, utilizing appropriate research literature and recognized best practices; and report program updates, needs, student issues, and concerns to OPEEP leadership.
The Education Program Specialist will also coordinate forms and paperwork for the program; maintain project records; maintain confidential materials as required by the department, OSU, and ODRC guidelines, and perform other related duties as assigned by OPEEP leadership.
Minimum Education Required
A bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications
A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in education program coordination, advising, mentoring, career counseling, and/or student learning assistance is required. The successful candidate must be able to pass an ODRC background check to work in the prison facility.
Desired:
Prior experience working with incarcerated or reentry populations is desired. Preference may be given to candidates whose backgrounds are similar to the target student population, including candidates with a history of incarceration and successful reentry. A demonstrated commitment to social justice and educational equity is desired.

The Autism Professional Learning and Universal Supports (A+) Project at Illinois State University assists the Illinois State Board of Education in addressing the significant behavior needs of children and youth with Autism Spectrum (ASD) and related behavior and communication disorders. Through a comprehensive approach encompassing professional learning, technical assistance, coaching, and collaboration, A+ has worked closely with school teams to enhance their capacity to effectively support students with ASD. A+ partners with school entities to:
• Provide tiered- level of supports to address the specific needs of each school entity. This approach ensures that schools receive the appropriate level of support to improve services and outcomes for students with autism.
• Promote proactive approaches while working with students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to reduce the use of time out and restraint in Illinois schools.
• Build local capacity to increase program quality and enhance the fidelity of implementation of evidence-based practices for children and youth with ASD.
• Increase the percentage of students (that qualify for services under the eligibility of autism) who are educated in the general education classroom.
• Increase meaningful involvement of families in their children's education.
The autism coach position aims to fulfill the commitments of the Autism Professional Learning and Universal Supports project to participating school teams. The Autism Coaching Specialist will deliver professional learning, workshops and consultation to educators and staff serving students with autism in Illinois schools. These services will include workshops, the creation of resources and visual supports, and side-by-side coaching of classroom staff. Professional learning includes in person and virtual training to expand the expectations, knowledge, and skills of those who live with, educate, and support individuals with ASD. It supports the sustainable implementation of research-based practices by providing instructional activities and resources to anyone who wants to learn more about ASD and to leaders who guide professional development initiatives in the school and community settings. Technical assistance includes facilitating, implementing, and evaluating systems-change initiatives customized to the unique needs of school teams and educational environments. The autism coach supports the sustainable implementation of research-based practices by providing team facilitation and strategic planning to build the capacity of those who support individuals with ASD. The autism coach specialist utilizes a behavior skills training model involving instruction, modeling, rehearsal, and feedback; gradual release models to grow the skills staff need and ensure competency and consistency in implementation.

ROLE AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The Elementary Mathematics Specialist is responsible for leadership, support, coaching, and professional learning focused on sustained implementation of instructional strategies, interventions and programs designed to improve student outcomes in mathematics. This position will design and deliver professional learning, in a variety of settings, to improve instructional performance in mathematics at elementary grade levels aligned with Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). This position will assist educators in analyzing student assessment, achievement scores as well as modeling innovative technology strategies. This position will work in cooperation with the K - 12 Math Specialist with coordinated efforts and a team approach. They will utilize continuous improvement goals as well as using data tools to engage districts in discussions around improving mathematics instruction through identified strategies.
Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
Provides leadership and direction in elementary mathematics curriculum, instruction, and assessment for the county.
Actively communicates with countywide elementary mathematics instructors to keep them updated with the current instructional practices and curriculum.
Facilitates an ongoing elementary countywide math leaders' network, with consistent communication on resources, technology, MDE updates as well as collective projects and initiatives to increase math outcomes.
Maintains and stays updated on math standards along with district-adopted curriculum, assessments and instruction practices, strengths, and challenges.
Understands and models Differentiated Instruction and Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) practices in math specific to elementary.
Models and helps teachers to implement effective Tier I strategies.
Assists in identifying and/or establishing Tier II and III interventions to ensure a system of support for students in math both inside and outside the classroom.
Provides professional learning, based on district feedback and needs, utilizing MTSS, Math Essentials as well as the most current information and latest research on best practices as it relates to student assessment and grading in math.
Communicates and clearly identifies student instructional needs through the analysis of math test results to district and constituent school district staff.
Provides support to districts which could include modeling, coaching and lesson planning.
Maintains confidential information on student achievement, as well as initiating reports to compile data that identify areas for improvement.
Serves in a leadership capacity on the Countywide Professional Learning Planning Team, at Principal and Curriculum Director meetings, and attends other countywide committees as appropriate.
Works to implement, monitor and identify math grants to support increased math outcomes for Genesee County.
Works cooperatively and in collaboration with other Math Specialists as well as other content coordinators to create/complete projects, provide professional development and integrate content for the purpose of supporting local district needs.
Uses current technology to create and post video casts, host webinars and connect with educators virtually.
Identifies and understands the various data tools that districts are using (Munetrix, SchoolsOpen, Synergy, etc.) and supports the analysis and interpretation of current math assessments, interventions, and reports.
Posts updated math resources for teachers on the website along with using current social media to communicate with county teachers and administrators.
Understands the continuous improvement process, MICIP and effective math strategies through the MICIP strategy bank.
Demonstrates an understanding of the needs of all learners and learning styles, including the at-risk, special education and gifted learners, as well as strategies to best meet their needs in the area of math.
Serves as a member of the Office of Education and Learning instructional planning team.
Participates and attends countywide, regional, and statewide math meetings.
Consistently models Win-Win leadership.
Other Duties:
Represents the district on local, state, and national mathematics planning committees.
Communicates with other educational and non-educational institution representatives in the community on the assessment and evaluation of mathematics.
Collaborates with institutions of higher education, business, and industry representatives to facilitate mathematics instructional strategies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree and valid Michigan teacher certificate in mathematics required. Master's degree in mathematics, curriculum development, educational leadership, or related field required. Graduate credit beyond the master's degree in research, curriculum design, program planning and evaluation of mathematics programs preferred.
Experience:
Five years of successful teaching or equivalent work experience required. Recent elementary mathematics teaching experience and/or mathematics department head/coordinator experience in elementary education preferred. Experience analyzing Michigan's mathematics assessment systems (MSTEP, PSAT, SAT) or similar math assessment test results and developing instructional strategies to improve student performance required. Experience with using the Michigan Mathematics Standards and Benchmarks required. School improvement planning experience preferred.
Skills/Other:
Demonstrated dynamic written, oral and presentation skills required. Understands learning and classrooms and can communicate that understanding to teachers, parents, administrators, and the community. Demonstrated mental/physical ability and stamina for meeting the essential duties of the position. Ability to relate effectively with others through oral and written communication. Strong teamwork, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills. Discretion with confidential information. Ability to maintain a poised and professional image at all times.
