The Details:
Wage: $61,987 - 118,388 salaried exempt. The wage offered will depend on education level and years of experience.
Work Hours and Location: This position is in person from 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. M-F with occasional evenings and weekends throughout the school year.

Who You Are: The ideal candidate is an outstanding educator with experience designing and teaching a range of curricula including advanced level courses who will work to ensure student success. Nature & Scope of Responsibilities
Strategic Communications
Lead the development and implementation of a cohesive communications and marketing strategy for internal and external audiences, in alignment with school priorities.
Articulate Overlake's story in a way that honors its history and highlights its vision for the future.
Maintain consistent messaging, brand voice, and visual identity across platforms and across departments.
Partner with the Head of School on key communications, including school-wide messaging and timely updates to the community.

About the Role:
Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in north Seattle, Washington, is currently recruiting for an outdoor biking trip leader to lead trips for 7th grade students in May 2026 and high school students in August 2026.
Lakeside Middle School's Outdoor Program consists of 4-day, 3-night backpacking trips for 7th grade students, and 3-day, 2-night camping trips for 6th grade students. Lakeside Upper School's outdoor program consists of a 6-day, 5-night wilderness experience across a variety of different activities. The goals for the program are to help students:
Develop a sense of place in the Pacific Northwest:
Learn how to contribute as members of teams;
Practice problem solving;
Take physical, emotional, and social risks;
Learn the fundamentals of ‘wilderness' backpacking and camping and leave no trace protocols.
Responsibilities
The outdoor biking trip leader is one of two or three adults to co-lead, co-manage, and execute all aspects of the trip for a group of nine to eleven students. Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Supporting student learning by facilitating group activities with a diverse group of students.
Supporting a diverse student body who will come into the program with a wide array of outdoors experience, including many students with limited or no outdoor experience.
Providing wilderness, camping, and biking expertise as well as teaching students relevant and appropriate skills and knowledge in these areas.
Managing risk appropriately to create a safe and supportive environment for all students.
Driving students to and from site and as needed during the trip, most likely on a minibus pulling a trailer (training provided).
Provide bicycle repair and maintenance on trips for students as needed, including fixing flats, broken chains, and other common issues.
The trips are planned as follows:
Leader training day - Monday May 11, 2026
7th grade prep day - Monday May 18, 2026
7th grade biking trip - Tuesday May 19 - Friday May 22, 2026
AND
Olympic Biking trip prep day - Saturday August 15, 2026

Leaders must be available for the leader training day, the prep days and all days of the trip in which they are leading. Leaders may need to stay later than 4pm to clean up after the trip on trip return days.
Requirements and Qualifications
Successful candidates should:
Be at least 21 years of age;
Have experience leading multi-day wilderness expeditions working with middle school age children;
Have experience working with diverse student populations and demonstrated equity and inclusion mindset. Candidates should be aware of their own identity and biases, consider how privilege impacts outdoor recreation spaces, and take into account student's varied exposure to the outdoors.
Have experience and willingness to contribute to all group activities;
Have training and/or experience in experiential/outdoor education;
Have experience doing bicycle maintenance and adjustments;
Have experience leading bicycle tours or other biking based trips or activities;
Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.
Must possess current Wilderness First Aid & CPR certifications at a minimum, though Wilderness First Responder is strongly preferred.
Willingness to be trained in and able to drive a mini-bus (15 passengers) preferred, but not required. (No special license required, drivers must be 25 years old.)

Compensation

Reporting to the assistant head of school/Upper School director, the director of athletics serves as a member of the school's directors group and leads a dedicated team of athletics employees, coaches, program head, and trainers. The director champions a program grounded in excellence, integrity, sportsmanship, and belonging while ensuring athletics is a place where all students are supported, challenged, and inspired. This is a full time (1.0 FTE), exempt, administrative appointment on a full-year schedule (July 1 to June 30).

About the Position
The Director of Athletics provides visionary leadership for Lakeside's 5-12 interscholastic athletics program. As both leader and educator, the director works closely with students, employees, coaches, administrative colleagues, and families to create an environment where athletic achievement and personal growth reinforce one another. They will join a dedicated community that believes deeply in the invaluable role of athletics in student development and school culture.
The next director will have the opportunity to deepen connection between athletics and the school's mission; foster a culture of coaching excellence; enhance program cohesion across divisions; support aspiring collegiate athletes; strengthen operational systems; and serve as a visible and engaged presence across the community.
Essential responsibilities
Advance a mission-aligned program that reflects Lakeside's values of integrity and belonging, ensuring athletics supports students' social, emotional, and physical development.
Lead the 5-12 Interscholastic Athletics Program and ensure consistent implementation of policies, procedures, and expectations.
Supervise and mentor an experienced staff: an associate athletics director, three assistant athletics directors, two athletic trainers, two strength coaches, an event and facilities manager, and varsity head coaches.
Hire, support, and evaluate coaches; lead professional development; and ensure appropriate staffing at athletic contests.
Build cohesion across divisions, uniting Middle and Upper School athletics through shared expectations, communication, and programmatic alignment.
Champion health, safety, and wellness by overseeing risk management, athletic training, strength and conditioning, and best practices in student-athlete care.
Oversee the daily operations of athletics, including scheduling, event supervision, equipment and apparel management, and coordination of facilities.
Represent athletics within school leadership, offering thoughtful, informed perspectives on school-wide policy, culture, and long-term planning while working with all departments to enhance the student experience.
Continue fostering a culture of high-quality coaching, building systems for recruiting, developing, mentoring, and evaluating coaches and program personnel.
Support college-bound athletes, partnering with college counseling to guide the 10-20% of Lakesiders who pursue intercollegiate athletics each year.
Partner externally with CYO, the Metro League, WIAA, and peer institutions to maintain strong relationships and uphold Lakeside's leadership in the region.
Enhance communication and visibility, working within the office and with communications on storytelling, publicity, web and social media content, and community engagement.
Plan for program sustainability, collaborating with development and business offices on budgeting, facilities planning, and potential fundraising initiatives.
Manage the department finances and budget, including purchasing all equipment and uniforms.
Serve as a member of the directors group, contributing to decisions about school-wide initiatives, strategic planning, and community culture.
Serve as a visible ambassador for athletics at games, assemblies, admissions events, and community gatherings.
Interpret and communicate WIAA and school eligibility guidelines; address concerns raised by students, families, and coaches.
Collaborate with enrollment management and admissions to attract prospective student-athletes who would thrive at Lakeside and enhance the program.
Partner closely with the communications team to ensure timely, accurate, and engaging athletics coverage.
Fully participate actively in the life of the school, including faculty meetings, student-support conversations, professional development, and major school events.
Perform other duties as assigned by the assistant head of school/Upper School director.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in the liberal arts or in a field related to athletics or physical education. A Master's degree in education, athletics, physical education, or independent school leadership is preferred, but not required.
Three or more years of experience as an athletic director, assistant athletic director, or comparable role.
Extensive coaching experience.
Strong understanding of, or willingness to learn, the collegiate recruiting process.
Working knowledge of MS Office and Google Workspace.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and families from diverse backgrounds.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and follow-through.
References that reflect maturity, integrity, self-awareness, and the ability to thrive in a highly visible community role.
Successful completion of at least three criminal background checks.
