The Learning Specialist is a member of the school's Academic Support Division and reports to the Director of Academic Support. This part-time, benefits-eligible, 10-month position comes with the responsibility of working with faculty and staff to serve as a learning specialist in support of the school's mission and curricular goals. Responsibilities Provide targeted one-to-one support for students in Grades 4-8, with a focus on supporting math skills for students, helping them be successful across academic areas. Provide tutorial support for students enrolled in pre-algebra and algebra in Grades 7-8 The caseload will include up to 22 student sessions per week over 4 days per week. Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, the Director of Academic Support, and other school educators to identify and address student needs.. Interpret neuropsychological reports and determine instructional implications of these findings for individual support and classroom math instruction. Write student progress reports up to 3 times each academic year. Attend one Academic Support Department meeting per week, parent conferences twice a year, and team/child study meetings as appropriate for caseload. Meet expectations as defined by the Park School Employee Essential Expectations Qualifications Bachelor's degree required, Master's strongly preferred. Minimum of four years of successful experience teaching/tutoring students with learning challenges. Demonstrated understanding of specific learning challenges that can impact student's acquisition of math skills, knowledge of how to address these challenges in order to support achievement, and ability to communicate these challenges and strategies to teachers and families. Demonstrated repertoire of strategies, methods, and materials for teaching math to students at the K-8 level who need supplemental and/or alternative approaches to be successful. Understanding of Investigations and Big Ideas curricula and familiarity with other math curricula at the K-8 level. Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, families, and students to support learning. Experience providing both “pull out” and “push in” support. Experience with both in-person and remote math instruction. Current knowledge of technological supports for math learning. Experience supporting students' development of executive function and organizational skills across academic areas.
