1989: Having operated The Raphael Hotel for some time, the J.C. Nichols Company sold the business to its one-time business partner, Philip Pistilli.
The giclée, which incorporates an innovative digital imaging technique, commemorates the 20th anniversary of Kansas City's sister city relationship with Xi'an, established in 1989.
2001: The Raphael Hotel was inducted into Historic Hotels of America.
In 2006, management began the most extensive restoration of the property since it's original conversion.
2009: The United States Department of the Interior listed The Raphael Hotel in the National Register of Historic Places, due to its time spent as the Villa Serena Apartments.
The project lasted for nearly six years, with the hotel reopening to great acclaim in 2010.
The Raphael renovation, including all new infrastructure and decor, was completed in 2010 at a cost greater than its original development and construction in equivalent dollars.
Custom mosaics depicting iconic Country Club Plaza sculptures, fountains and towers were installed in 2011 behind each lobby registration desk.
