The Register-Guard company history timeline

1926

In 1926, Woodson proposed a national “Negro History Week." Woodson chose the second week of February to coincide with the birthdays of Frederick Douglass, a famed abolitionist who escaped from slavery, and President Abraham Lincoln, who formally abolished slavery.

1976

It wasn't until 1976, during the height of the civil rights movement, that President Gerald Ford expanded the week into Black History Month.

1980

Texas was the first to officially recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday, in 1980.

2000

Pipeworks has created numerous high-profile games, letting players tear apart monsters in the Godzilla game series it created in the early 2000s, and more recently it helped make the popular football game "Madden 20."

2008

Jones is the audio designer for Pipeworks Studios, one of Eugene’s most well-known current developers, and has worked there on and off since 2008.

2014

Full-time video game development was always the dream for Eugene resident Britt Brady, but in 2014 the chances looked bleak.

2015

Feeling inspired by the resurgence of popularity in pixel art games, he quit his painting job in 2015 to pursue developing games full time.

2018

Lamar's album "DAMN." won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for storytelling that reflected the complex experience of Black life in America.

2019

Multiple publishers turned Brady down, until the most high-profile one, Devolver, agreed to publish their first title together "Gato Roboto" in 2019.

2021

In 2021, the Black Led Action Coalition (B.L.A.C.), Honoring Our New Ethnic Youth (H.O.N.E.Y.) and Xcape Dance Company banded together with local leaders to bring arts, education and participating speakers for the city’s second “Official Juneteenth Celebration.”

It hosts events annual events such as Indie Game Con, and in 2021 Bitforest received its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.

2022

1 as president of the Eugene Springfield NAACP. He will serve in the role until December 2022, after which he looks forward to going back to school to pursue law.
