The Rock Church company history timeline

1974

After completing seminary, Pastor Raleigh was introduced to Glen Kehrein, founding executive director of Circle Urban Ministries (CUM), a Christian community development agency serving Austin residents since 1974.

1983

The church has experienced growth since 1983 when Bishop Bart Pierce came to Baltimore.

Rock Church Academy was established the same year, 1983.

In 1983, when Pastor Raleigh Washington founded Rock Church, Austin had already morphed from a predominantly White neighborhood to one whose primary residents were Black.

1985

In 1985 the church held its first annual “Harvest” featuring several days of community luncheons for hundreds, children’s day camp activities, and a free Carnival and Bar-B-Que on the last day. “Harvest” has continued each June for the past twenty-five years.

1986

1986 – The Rock Church Family Life Center was built, dedicated and declared debt-free just a few months later and served as the primary sanctuary and used for the school

The efforts of both men were so successful that Rock Church grew to over 100 members by 1986.

1988

The Rock Church and World Outreach Center began in 1988 with 12 people and one box of Kleenex.

1991

A.L. Washington, who in 1991 had become Chaplain at Circle Urban Ministries, replaced him.

1992

1992 – The Church continued to grow and construction started on a new larger sanctuary.- Washington for Jesus 92′

1993

In 1993, an addition was built onto the building to serve as a sanctuary and to make room for the growth of this new ministry that God had begun in the Zachary community.

In 1993, Pastor Raleigh and Glen co-authored Breaking Down Walls – A Model for Reconciliation in an Age of Racial Strife.

1997

In 1997, Doctor Ledford followed the Holy Spirit's challenge to start another work in Ohio.

1998

In 1998 Pastor Raleigh joined the leadership staff of Promise Keepers, a national men’s movement.

2000

Rock Church held its first service at San Diego State University in 2000.

2001

2001 – Peace for the City (One-Won Conference @ Camden Yards bringing churches in Baltimore together)

2003

2003 – The Compassion Commission youth conference begins with inner city outreach and service projects in Baltimore, Maryland.

2005

In 2005 the Rock began construction on their new building at Liberty Station and two years later, the new campus was open.

2008

In 2008 Circle Urban and Rock Church invited Catalyst Schools to transition Circle Rock Prep School into a charter school.

2009

2009 – Station North Thrift Store opened on Greenmount Ave to provide affordable items to local residents

2010

The 5G Shift 2010 – The Holy Ghost Café dining hall was completed with a commercial kitchen to hold large gathering internally

2011

2011 was a transition year for both Rock Church and CUM. Pastor Lincoln resigned from pastoring the church and Glen Kehrein passed away after a yearlong battle with colon cancer.

2017

2017 – Rock City Church of Tanzania established with Pastor Vincent

2018

2018 – Healing the healers meeting at Rock City Church to minister to police officers and city officials after the riots in Baltimore

2019

2019 – The first Recharge events begins in January to renew passion and purpose in youth to serve God.
