The students and colleagues were unique and kept me excited and exhausted on a daily basis to strive each day to give my all to them.
Principals with their own personal agendas, many who have never even taught in the classroom who had their own personnel they brought to the school with them ruined the building I worked in for nearly 25 years.
I cannot think of any favorite benefit or perk of working there for nearly 30 years.
The CEO/ leadership team has changed many times over the course of my tenor at the SDP, I never met any of them.
Holding everyone, including principals or other administration accountable for their inaction regarding favoritism, non adherence to seniority, harassment and bullying of seasoned employees.
There was a three step process when I was applying. First you took a content based test for which you received a score. Next, based on your score you were scheduled to teach a demonstration lesson to a panel of principals on the hiring committee. These two scores were then averaged until finally you were invited for an oral interview. After these three step you were given a number and waited to be contacted via a letter which stated when I was to report to the SDP TO choose a school from a list of those available. However, not all choices were available. Some were marked as AA meaning African American only, for which I could not apply. The schools closest to my home fell into this category.
The pay rate for Philadelphia is ranked 66th out of 130 school districts in Pa, yet it is the largest and probably most diverse in population.
Helping students who have no help at home find the resources they need to exist i
Variety of positions offered to teachers and coaches.
Nothing at all
Great retirement plan.
