The SM Store company history timeline
Since our first store opened in 1958, The SM Store has been a long-time favorite one-stop-shop with the best product variety, shopping convenience, and value for money.
The company was founded by Henry Sy, Sr. on January 15, 1960 and is headquartered in Pasay, Philippines.“
In 1978, Sy began buying supermarkets at the northern end of EDSA in Quezon City.
1985 saw the opening of the first shopping center, SM City North EDSA during a time of a major political and economic crisis.
SM Hypermarket, which combines a supermarket and a department store, opens in 2001
By 2005, the SM Investments Corporation was inaugurated.”
This is the same year that SM Mall of Asia opened in the scenic Manila Bay in Pasay City. It spans 400,000 sqm, the largest mall back then and was the anchor development in the Mall of Asia Complex; SMDC launches its first high-rise project, Mezza Residences in 2006
