Pipefitter Job Responsibilities: * Selects the type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to job specifications. * Inspects the worksite to determine the presence of obstructions. * Plans sequence on installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other workers. * Cuts pipe using a reciprocating saw, pipe cutter, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine, and/or other small hand tools. * Thread pipe using a threading machine. * Bends pipe by hand or with pipe-bending tools and machines. * Mounts pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceiling to hold the pipe. * Assembles and installs a variety of metal or nonmetal pipes and pipe fittings. * Secures pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers, using hand and power tools. * Performs minor maintenance of cleaning activities of tools and equipment. * Observe and complies with all safety and project rules and all company policies and procedures * Performs other duties as required. Position Description Thompson Construction is seeking a Safety Manager for a Hydro project. Candidates must be comfortable with travel and relocation. You will be responsible for ensuring that Thompson's safety programs and performance meet or exceed OSHA, State and Federal requirements. In addition, plan, implement, and coordinate programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses, as well as motivating and educating employees to enable Thompson to become the recognized leader in both safety and quality of all contractors in the Southeast. This opportunity will provide per diem, if eligible. Job Responsibilities * Observe job performance and search for any possible site hazards to ensure that the company complies with all regulatory guidelines (OSHA, MSHA, EPA, etc.) and provide direction to management and employees for immediate actions if we are out of compliance. * Identify conditions which could produce accidents and communicate to operation management so that conditions can be eliminated. Also communicate this information to peer Safety Managers so that information is shared between areas. * Conduct post-accident investigations and make recommendations to prevent accident from reoccurring. * Assist operation management on accident documentation. * Communicate with injured employee and accompany the employee to initial and follow-up medical treatment to ensure that employee is taken care of and the physician understands employee's duties and explanation of our light duty policy. * Plan, implement and coordinate programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses or deaths and financial losses. * Assist in development of Corporate and Division Standard Operating Procedures, policies and procedures for safety. * Maintain data for various safety statistics such as first aids, recordables; graph and trend by type and area, etc. Enter data in to audit system. Review data for trends. * Conduct training on safety, new employee orientation, as required. * Visit each established work site at least once a week to conduct audits (goal of 25 per month) following the TCG audit sheet as well as identifying any hazards or abating any unsafe behaviors or conditions in the work area. * Visually inspect Thompson vehicles/equipment for damage and road worthiness. * Assist in pre-job/shutdown planning when possible with the Project Manager * Make personal contact with the working crews to build relationships, address concerns and identify improvement opportunities. * Visit customer contacts and medical facilities to maintain a strong, professional relationship * Attend customer sponsored / mandated safety meetings. * Counsel/coach employee when policy infractions are noted and inform appropriate supervision for additional counseling and possible disciplinary actions. * Other duties as assigned. Job Qualifications * Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the field. * Computer skills in Microsoft Office-Office, Excel, and PowerPoint are required. * Must have completed OSHA 30. * Additional training, preferably OSHA 500, is preferred. * Some sites may require MSHA and HAZWOPER certification. * Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly with supervisor/co-workers and understand. * Must be able to utilize basic math. * Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively, operate moving equipment and work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments. * Work at heights up to 200 feet. * Some sites require use of a respirator. * Candidate may be required to pass a drug test and criminal background check based on job location/requirements. Essential Qualifications: High school or equivalent One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level) Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools NCCER certification may be required at some job sites Written pre-employment qualification test Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.) Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.) Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of others in the workplace Functional Requirements: Studies blueprints, sketches or structural plans for information pertaining to the type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated, Selects specific types of lumber or other materials, Prepares layouts including lines and grades, Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials, Shapes materials to prescribed measurements, Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together, Erects framework for structures and lays sub-flooring, Builds stairs and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work, Covers subfloor with building paper to keep out moisture and lays hardwood, parquet, and wood-strip-block floors, Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finishes hardware such as locks, letter drops and kick plates, Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete, Erects temporary platforms, steps, and ladders for assembling structures below ground, at ground level or above ground level, Fabricates formwork then loads, hauls, and carries it to the job site and installs per drawings, sketches, or plans, Places and finishes concrete in formwork and sets and aligns form panels, Sets grout forms for epoxy and cement grout, Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction. Tools/Equipment: Employee may be required to provide the following: tool box, claw hammer, hand saw, framing square, level, tri square, torpedo level, measuring tape, nail pouch, plumb bob, gloves, nail bar, chalk box, tie wire pliers, hack-saw, pliers or vise grips, screw drivers, wood chisels, folding ruler or tape, crescent wrench, scaffold socket wrench and combination wrench, rain suit. Compensation: Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
