The Tech Interactive company history timeline
The first 20,000-square-foot (1,900 m) temporary exhibit opened in 1990; The Garage, named in homage to the HP Garage, was housed in San Jose's former convention center.
Since opening in 1998, The Tech Interactive has welcomed more than 10 million visitors.
In 2015 The Tech was awarded the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the highest honor a United States museum, science center or cultural institution can achieve.
In 2018, an expansion of Tech Interactive by 63,000 square feet (5,900 m) was proposed, as part of a major high-rise office development in Park Habitat.
In May 2019, the organization was renamed as The Tech Interactive and announced a partnership with Discovery Education.
