Finova got involved in the company's activities in 1995, offering a $35 million line of credit to finance Thaxton Group's lending.
By 1998, the suit says, Finova was making major business decisions for Thaxton.
That culminated in a joint venture, called Berkadia, which provided $8.1 billion in financing for Finova in a bankruptcy reorganization in 2001.
He was found dead in his garage in December 2003.
