As a Part Time Warehouse Assistant , you would help to and ensure we have the resources available to ensure that our animals, representing over 720 species, are well cared for and that endangered species around the world are protected with our global conservation efforts. This role will consist of handling deliveries, inspecting and stocking merchandise, managing inventory and preparing reports and records. You'll also help maintain a clean and efficient warehouse, and interact with vendors, drivers, and team members. Being able to operate a variety of equipment, including but not limited to, trucks, forklift, stock ladders, computer, pallet lift and more is key. Whether it's running errands, assisting with special events, or contributing to daily logistics, your attention to detail and strong work ethic will make a big impact. This position is non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Minimum Training & Qualifications: Must be 21+ years of age. Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier. Candidates must have the physical ability to lift 45 pounds, climb up and down ladders, and work on their feet for 8 hours a day. Ability to climb in and out of trucks in all climate types including heat, cold, rain, and snow. Experience with data entry, balancing invoices, and receiving merchandise. Responsible for maintaining records and entering data into the ZIMS system. Clinic & Inventory Management Assists in clinic management including scheduling equipment maintenance (hoods, x-ray equipment, anesthesia equipment) and renewing all vendor licenses and clinic licenses (radiology, pharmacy, etc.). Assists in drug inventory which includes monthly expired drug checks and maintains inventory to USDA/AZA standards. Logs in controlled drugs as per protocol and regulation. Orders and negotiates prices on drugs and equipment. Assist in maintaining fecal and annual exam schedules. Assists in maintaining sample logs for freezers, slides, fecals and bloodwork. Operational Support & Training Drives to other locations as needed to obtain supplies and equipment and deliver samples. Assists in training new staff, veterinary technician students, and volunteers as needed Maintains licensure through continuing education. Qualifications Education & Certification A minimum of 1 years' experience as a veterinary technician in a zoological institution and a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Wildlife Conservation, Biology, Ecology, or a closely related field is preferred. Degree in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology and graduation from an accredited Veterinary Technology Program or equivalent combination of training/experience required.     Overview Responsibilities The goal of this internship is to utilize interns to record observational data of a variety of species within Animal Care Regions throughout the Zoo. Using a Microsoft Excel based worksheets (which will be utilized on the Google Sheets app); interns will observe each animal, as designated by region. This program will allow for observations to be taken on an iPad, which can then be exported for analysis. Through the information that is obtained interns will work with Animal Care Professionals to assess and make appropriate changes to improve Animal Welfare. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, working alongside full-time keeper staff in learning basic animal behaviors and group dynamics, observing animals and reporting any behavioral changes, and performing other duties as assigned. Interns will also be required to complete various quizzes, training, projects and presentation, and a final reflection paper assigned by the departments.
