The hourly salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual hourly rate for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

Underwriters perform the critical function of evaluating the acceptability of risk and determining appropriate pricing for insurance products. The Business Insurance Underwriting Professional Development Internship Program provides students with the amazing opportunity to gain exposure to this critical function at Travelers. The 10-week program provides qualified students with an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand commercial insurance underwriting experience, receive valuable on-the-job training, and learn more about the property and casualty insurance industry from industry professionals. It is a potential pathway to our 12-month Underwriting Professional Development Program (UPDP). Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. The company does not sponsor/support H-1B petitions, TN, or Forms I-983/STEM OPT, for this role.
What Will You Do?
* Within your assigned business unit, each intern will be given a designated coach and be expected to:
* Complete core assignments and training modules geared toward insurance and underwriting principles.
* Participate and complete self-paced professional development courses in time management, presentation skills, and other key areas.
* Complete challenging and meaningful project work over the course of this program at the discretion of your manager. You may work independently or with other interns and will be asked to present your findings to local leadership. Sample projects include a territorial risk assessment to determine profitability and underwriting opportunities as well as a business process analysis to determine underwriting gaps.
* Learn about other areas at Travelers such as Risk Control, Claims, and related Corporate functions. Interns may also engage in Agency visits with Account Executives.
* Participate in the Enterprise Internship experience which includes Executive Speaker Series, Networking events, and Intern Symposium for Rising Seniors.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Role Snapshot Our Internship Program with WPS Health Solutions is comprised of two key components. The first component involves gaining practical experience to supplement academic coursework and prepare for future career pursuits. This will be comprised of a hands-on role within a functional area related to a relevant field of study. Each internship incorporates responsibilities and tasks which support the business objectives and client service offerings, while providing ongoing collaboration with experienced departmental colleagues and exposure to "real world" business demands. The second element centers on exposure to corporate culture and professional development:
Interns will participate in discussions focused on building soft-skills and business acumen. This intern will focus on ensuring data is accurate, secure, and responsibly managed. They may assist with data quality checks, metadata and cataloging, and documentation that promotes transparency and auditability. They will also gain exposure to how governance practices extend to AI, including ethical use, compliance, and risk awareness. This experience builds practical skills in strengthening data foundations while supporting the responsible adoption of AI.
Start Date: June 2025
Pay Rate: $22.00/hour

This position will be hybrid, having the regional availability to come into our Office 3 days a week cadence. Our office location: WPS Corporate Center Building - 1717 W. Broadway in Madison, WI.
What you will do as a Data & AI Governance Analyst Intern:
* Support data quality, metadata, and cataloging efforts by running validation checks, tagging datasets, updating lineage information, and assisting with the configuration and upkeep of governance platforms.
* Contribute to governance and risk management activities by identifying data or AI-related risks, drafting mitigation notes, maintaining dashboards, and supporting the tools and systems that track compliance and risk.
* Advance responsible AI and governance practices by researching ethical frameworks and compliance requirements, and by developing documentation, checklists, training materials, and platform-based resources that promote transparency, accountability, and audit-readiness.

The Role
Join our dynamic Analytics team as a Business Intelligence Intern and play a key role in empowering business partners with data-driven insights and decision-making tools. In this temporary position, you will collaborate with experienced BI professionals to meet business reporting and data needs through queries, reports, and dashboards. Learn to use SQL and other tools to extract and analyze data in areas related to workers compensation insurance.
Assist in developing visualizations to deliver information and provide recommendations to business partners.
Create and update reports and dashboards using Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau, Cognos and PowerBI and assist with troubleshooting errors and bugs
Research capabilities of potential new Business Intelligence tools
Present insights to business partners that highlight key metrics, trends, and recommendations
May assist with other Analytics department initiatives related to Actuarial and Data Science functions as appropriate
Receive personalized guidance from seasoned professionals and industry leaders who will support your growth, answer your questions, and help you navigate the intricacies of the insurance landscape.
Learns the roles, functions and responsibilities of a successful staff member in the insurance industry.
SFM Business Operations:
Provides support to the team in accordance with the respective department procedures and practices. Within scope of responsibility, interacts with other departments to resolve business issues and provides back-up coverage to all team members when requested.

Compensation:
The base pay posted is just one component of SFM's total compensation package. The salary range listed represents the full compensation range for this position. Job title and starting pay will be based on the selected candidate's relevant knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience, and education, if applicable as well as internal equity with other employees in the same job classification.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Regular attendance is required. Work takes place in a semi paperless environment within an office setting, or other remote location, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopies, which requires being stationary for extended periods of time. As one of our 4 Summer Interns, you'll be immersed in a learning experience like no other. The insurance industry offers career paths in many different directions, and we want you to experience them all so that you can experience first-hand what YOU like and where your skills can be best put to use in your career.
MMA's internship is a comprehensive program that will provide you with real world business, risk management and insurance experience. Learn to apply the concepts you've learned in the classroom through project work and client interaction. You'll also develop professional skills that will serve you the rest of your career. Marsh McLennan Agency's internship program gives you the chance to find your interest and place in the insurance industry. MMA's goal is to provide insight into all areas of the insurance industry and act as a springboard into full-time careers in the role you desire. Our internship will focus on the tools needed to build a solid foundation for our Client Management or Sales career pathways.

Study in an undergraduate program, majoring in a Business-related field. This internship is preferably for students in their junior/senior year(s).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with working knowledge of social media and other online platforms.

Legal work authorization to work in the U.S. on a permanent and ongoing basis without the need for sponsorship now or in the future

Reviews and processes new applications for life insurance and annuity products ensuring applications meet technical, legal and underwriting guidelines.
Refers or consults with Senior New Business Professional or other staff as appropriate on more complex applications.
Handles customer inquiries to include agents and members.
This role may also:

Qualifications
