1890

One of those homes, located just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, was the “Home for the Aged and Infirmed of the Methodist Episcopal Church of the County of Camden,” which opened in 1890 in a five- bedroom house at 531 York Street in Camden, New Jersey.

1899

In 1899 the Woman’s Home Missionary Society enlarged the Bancroft Rest Home at 7 Cookman Avenue to care for the increasing number of Deaconesses reaching retirement age or being incapacitated by declining health.

1937

As the need continued to increase, the trustees purchased land for a new and much larger building in 1937.

1989

Partnering with HUD and two local churches, Bishop Taylor Manor opened in 1989 in East Orange.

2000

In 2000, both conferences merged to form the Greater New Jersey Conference of the United Methodist Church.

2001

The Homes only Continuing Care Retirement Community, Bristol Glen, opened in 2001 (replacing Methodist Manor) and expanded the Homes’ presence in Northern New Jersey.
