Essential Job Functions * Has knowledge of and utilizes appropriate patient care protocol relating to the physical and psychological needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients * Positions patient * Selects proper technical factors * Utilizes computer to record patient status * Functions proficiently with all technical equipment in diagnostic modality * Assists physician in performing imaging studies * Prepares contrast media for administration to patients and assists the physician * Works independently in assigned areas as assigned * Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patients * Handles patient in conformance with all established safety procedures * Process images and patient records in conformance with all established operational procedures * Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiate life support measures where appropriate * Instructs patient in exam procedures * Is aware of and responsive to physical and psychological needed of patients under his/her care * Maintains technical imaging equipment in proper working condition * Reports malfunctioning equipment or housekeeping issues to appropriate person * Keeps equipment and work area clean and neat according to current 5S standards * Maintains an adequate inventory of all necessary supplies utilizing established par levls * Participates in continuing educational programs to maintain and upgrade technical skills * Contributes to the orientation of new staff technologist and student technologist as required * Performs other duties as requested Required Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent. Under the supervision of the Supervisor, Radiologic Services, gives work direction to assigned personnel and participates in the operation of providing CT scanning and Xray services to both inpatients and outpatients of all ages, at all CHHD sites; Harvey, Calumet City, Flossmoor and Tinley Park. Participates in ACR Accreditation process and in maintaining ACR standards for CT. Participates in Radiologic Services Quality Assurance Committee with applicable indicators submitted as scheduled, and participates in hospital based TQM/CQI activities as requested Essential Job Functions * Ensures that each patient order is completed as ordered. * Maintains attendance and tardiness according to hospital standards * Demonstrates a positive, supportive attitude to physicians, patients, families and other personnel consistently, and in emergency and non-emergency situations * Ensures comfort and safety of patients with in the department at all times * Maintains courteous and pleasant attitude * Ensures the performance of daily quality control on instrumentation per department protocol. * Maintain all records and documentation as required by personnel for DNV Inspections. * Ensure radiation protection and safety practices for technologist and others in accordance with prescribed standards. (except US/MRI) * Make minor adjustments to equipment as deemed necessary * Adhere to all prescribed safety procedures in the performance of their duties. * Checks quality of examinations and performs repeats if necessary. * Provides patient and student with explanation of protocol and procedures when applicable. * Maintains awareness of safety hazards and use of equipment to prevent damage to personnel and patients. * Reports equipment needing repair to Manager/Lead technologist immediately * Obtains a complete history from the patient and/or chart prior to implementing procedures. * Performs imaging operations on assigned patients to obtain optimum exams * Maintains an orderly work area to ensure maximum efficiency. * Assists other staff when work is completed * Exhibits timely, satisfactory completion of patient's assignments with minimal assistance, as evidenced by no overtime unless requested and approved by supervisor. * Documents tests, procedures, to be performed on chart, and communicates this to appropriate person, and follows through to assure orders are completed with no documented errors noted. * Properly documents all unusual incidents * Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with production and quality standards. * Observes the confidentiality of department information * Introduces self to patient by name and title 100% of time. * Ensures the explanation of procedures and protocols are given to patients and significant others within 5 minutes of patient's entering the department for all patient exams. * Ensures the performance of the imaging process on the appropriate patient, following established procedures, and as prescribed by the physician. * Monitors studies for proper and adequate labeling, marking and history for all patient treatments. * Ensures observance of safety standards in compliance with legal requirements and department regulations. * Demonstrates knowledge of age specific factors necessary to perform duties safely and effectively. * Displays patience and tact when dealing with patients' families and other health professionals. * Preserves patient dignity, privacy and modesty following all HIPPA guidelines at all times. * Participates in in-service educational programs. * Attends relevant workshops and conferences as available. * Attends all mandatory departmental and hospital in-services * Attends seminars to enhance leadership and technical skills * Formulates written goals and objectives, and reviews annually with director * Seeks education and learning experience in areas of identified growth needs and review progress during annual evaluation.
