    Department BSD NEU - Jacobs Research Staff About the Department The Department of Neurology at The University of Chicago Medical Center has a great history and tradition, having made significant contributions to neurological training, clinical care, and the basic understanding of neurological disease. Job Summary The Jacobs Lab is seeking a Staff Scientist to contribute to research on the neural mechanisms underlying human memory, spatial navigation, and cognition. The Staff Scientist will collect intracranial brain recordings from neurosurgical patients, analyze neural signals for oscillatory dynamics and traveling waves, create custom analysis code, and interpret results in collaboration with clinical and computational partners. This role requires advanced expertise in human electrophysiology, data science, and cognitive neuroscience, and will be central to the lab's mission of advancing fundamental understanding of human brain function and informing translational applications. Responsibilities Designs, implements, and tests experimental protocols for human neuroscience research, including electrophysiological, computational, and statistical methods. Collects and analyzes intracranial recordings, identifies neural oscillations and traveling waves, and develops custom code and analytic pipelines to interrogate large-scale datasets. Interprets results and integrates findings with behavioral and cognitive measures, and will collaborate closely with clinicians, neuroscientists, and computational researchers across disciplines. Participates in grant applications and reports, co-author scientific manuscripts, and may mentor other members of the laboratory. Presents findings at scientific meetings and contributes to the peer review of manuscripts and proposals. Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information. Develops laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage, analyze and make recommendations on complex data sets for research. Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field. There continues to be an increasing concern about the pipeline of independent, productive physician-scientists in pediatrics. The Pediatric Physician Scientist Research Award (PPSRA) Program is intended as one strategy in addressing this limitation by providing intramural Departmental support for actively and/or newly recruited junior investigators who show outstanding potential for developing an independently funded research program. The PPSRA will provide salary support to protect sufficient time for selected Scholars to dedicate to their research programs within a robust mentoring environment. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a highly motivated, well organized and service-minded Assistant Core Scientist with established flow cytometry and cell sorting experience to join the Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Shared Resource. The Lurie Flow Core provides scientific and technical support to a large user base of over 250 PIs, and utilization of over 18,000 hours serving the entire Northwestern research community and its high-impact research. Therefore, experience of customer service, strong interpersonal skills, ability to organize, plan and document the work are desired. Demonstrated independent cell sorting experience on BD platforms is an advantage. Previous work and management experience of BSL-2 lab and work routines is highly desired, BSL-3 experience is a plus. Lurie flow core is a growing and state-of-the-art facility housing exceptional instrumentation - 10 sorters (including 4 new state-of-the-art BD FACSDiscover S8 sorters, Miltenyi tyto, and others) and 7 analyzers (including new state-of-the-art BD FACSDiscover A8 analyzer and other BD spectral analyzers). The team is encouraged to bring in new and innovative techniques and instrumentation to expedite scientific discovery. As an assistant core scientist, you will report to the facility manager and aid in the daily routines for both instruments and biosafety, perform conventional cell sorting and analysis and assist users. Experience in instrument trouble shooting is an advantage.
