Posting Summary
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a MentalHealth Specialist II for the 988 Lifeline Services Department within Rutgers University Behavioral HealthCare.
Performs functions in support of the Unit's mission providing streamlined, prompt, and "customer friendly" services to clients of the 988 Lifeline Services. Receives telephone, chat and/or text requests for service, undertakes assessment of the service need of the client and responds by offering support and appropriate referrals or disposition. Demonstrates competency in recognizing the unique needs of clients and applying relevant assessment and support skills with regard to a wide range of issues.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
* Models for clients' good communication skills, recovery-oriented living skills, effective coping skills, and selfhelp strategies as observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from clients and team members
* As part of the Call Center, actively participates in ensuring that all service requests are handled in an effective and "client friendly" manner.
* Assesses service requests/referrals and responds in accordance with prescribed procedures.
* Assesses client's condition in order to make/authorize an appropriate disposition.
* Assumes overall responsibilities for completion of all request and documentation for disposition.
* Documents assessments, interventions, and interactions with clients in a timely manner and in accordance with established policies.

Utilizes approved crisis intervention techniques to assist with de-escalation of situations, ensuring resident, staff, and visitor safety;
Implements the behavioral/level system where applicable;

Transports residents to work, school, and/or required meetings/appointments as required;
Monitors resident whereabouts to be sure they remain on the property, or have appropriate paperwork needed to leave the property;

Ensures resident medication is processed upon admission and given on time, in accordance with procedure;

Qualifications

The UGA College of Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Extension network is a trusted partner of the Georgia healthcare system, advancing prevention and health outcomes in alignment with the university's land-grant mission. Health Extension bridges the gap between clinical care and everyday life, delivering health education, prevention strategies and behavioral change support to individuals, families and communities throughout Georgia. This position is funded by the Presidential Interdisciplinary Faculty Hiring Initiative and as such, a successful candidate is expected to develop and implement local, state, regional, national, and internationally-recognized programs broadly focused on behavioral health extension to improve health outcomes for individuals and families in Georgia. This hiring initiative directly supports the land-grant mission of UGA and Extension and complements the new UGA medical school's focus on rural health.
The successful candidate will collaborate with Extension Specialists in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, the College of Agriculture and Environmental Science, Georgia Agricultural Wellness Alliance, USDA NIFA, Georgia Farm Bureau, the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, and other established partners. The successful candidate will work with 109 FACS Extension agents and educators serving 51 counties in Georgia.
A successful candidate will show the potential to take responsibility on externally funded, peer-reviewed projects concerning behavioral health education; present research at a minimum of one national or international conference per year, and participate in service on departmental, college, and/or university committees to support education and engagement missions. In addition, a successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Develop a robust Extension outreach program that considers the needs of Georgia Health Extension Agents and Educators and delivers programming, with measurable outcomes, to meet those needs.
* Work collaboratively with university faculty and Extension colleagues in diverse subject matter disciplines to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based educational programs focused on behavioral health issues.
* Develop a research program focused on contemporary allied health and behavioral health systems and write grants to secure extramural funding to support an innovative and sustainable extension and research program in Behavioral Health Education.
* Provide subject matter expertise for County Extension Agents through trainings, information, and research-informed, evidence-based programs that meet identified county and statewide needs.
* Publish in appropriate outlets for Extension and research audiences, including peer-reviewed journals.
* Disseminate applied research results and educational materials through extension publications and other types of written, audio, and/or visual works.
* Participate in graduate student mentoring and education.
* Assist in other tasks as assigned by the department.
Additional Requirements
The candidate must demonstrate evidence of innovative thinking, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with faculty, students, extension colleagues, and community stakeholders to develop a collaborative research and Extension program.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Preferred requirements include one year of experience with Extension programming or working with farmers.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
We seek a colleague with expertise in farm stress, health education delivery, prevention strategies and/or behavioral change to support individuals, families and communities.
The successful candidate should demonstrate potential for establishing a record of extramural funding, conducting research on behavioral health education topics.
Extensive practical knowledge in behavioral health topics is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Collaborate with school teams and external partners to design and implement mentalhealth supports through Multi-Tiered System of Supports.
Review assessments to identify students requiring additional supports and develop individualized plans.
Participate in intervention team meetings, contributing expertise on social-emotional learning and behavior.
Provide one-on-one counseling to address students' social-emotional needs, mental-health concerns, and personal challenges.
Assist students with developing coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, and self-advocacy.
Facilitate group sessions on topics such as conflict resolution, stress management, social skills, and grief processing.
Respond promptly to mentalhealth crisis and implement safety plans.
Collaborate with school staff, parents, and external partners to support students during emergencies.
Evaluate holistic student progress through the longitudinal analysis of academic and behavioral data to identify trends and optimize intervention strategies.
Identify and address barriers to student attendance through assessments, outreach, and direct support.
Monitor attendance data and provide targeted interventions for chronically absent students.
Provide staff training on mentalhealth awareness, trauma informed practices, and interventions for attendance and behavior.
Act as a liaison between the school and community resources, connecting families with needed services.
Maintain confidential and accurate records of services and interventions provided.
Ensure all practices align with district policies and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
CREDENTIAL:
Valid Georgia Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, School Social Worker, School Psychology, or School Counseling credentials
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Preferred three or more years of experience in a school-based practitioner role, ensuring high-fidelity support and positive student growth outcomes.
EDUCATION:
Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, School Counseling, or School Psychology

Responsibilities:
Implement individualized ABA treatment plans designed by a BCBA
Collect and record data on client progress and behavior
Assist with functional behavior assessments and skill assessments
Provide 1:1 direct ABA therapy to clients in a home setting
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including BCBAs, Speech Therapists, and Occupational Therapists
Attend team meetings and participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities
Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines established by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB)
Requirements:
Registered Behavior Technician Certification or Behavior Technician strongly preferred.
Minimum of 6 months experience working with children with autism or other developmental disabilities (preferred)
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Ability to pass a background check

The John S. Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center, inclusive of the Harris County Psychiatric Center (HCPC), provides individualized inpatient care across 23 specialized units. Our treatment areas include child and adolescent services, adult and geriatric psychiatry, psychosis care, co-occurring disorders, and competency restoration.
Available Schedules (rotating weekends and holidays):
* 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM
* Mandatory Orientation: Two-week onboarding process for all new hires
* Hospital-Wide Education Orientation: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (first two weeks)

Position Summary:
Focuses on safety, performing patient care activities or tasks for psychiatric patients as well as maintaining a therapeutic and safe environment under the direction of the licensed staff. Must be comfortable working with mentalhealth patients, many of whom have experienced trauma, in a compassionate and professional manner while promoting a safe environment.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Essential Functions
* Provides inpatient and outpatient non-skilled nursing for psychiatric patients.
* Provides supervision of patients on suicide or other critical precautions, 1:1 or 2:1, which requires a staff member to be within continuous arm 's length of a patient.
* Responsible for operating equipment such as IVAC, Sphygmomanometer and Scale.
* Assist patients with activities of daily living i.e. bathing, shaving, hygiene, toileting, and grooming, while respecting the patient 's privacy, to the extent possible.
* Interact and engage with patients in a therapeutic manner using Trauma informed care and therapeutic communication strategies.
* Participates in implementing and formulating patients' treatment plan based on experience and close observation of patients.
* Helps maintain a therapeutic milieu. Assists with milieu management and uses crisis de-escalation and trauma informed care strategies to reduce destructive and disruptive patient behavior and ensures the safety of patient, self, and others. Recognizes early warning signs of worsening patient behaviors and intervenes appropriately.
* Facilitates patients' groups and participation in therapeutic activities (i.e. community meeting, transition, and wrap-up groups etc.).
* Implement crisis management skills (de-escalation skills) as directed by licensed staff, including situations where the patient could be in danger, suffer self-inflicted harm, or harm others.
* Must be able to restrain an adult, adolescent, or pediatric patient within the guidelines currently in use at HCPC, including circumstances where the patient is violent or aggressive towards staff and others, including other patients.
* In certain circumstances, must be able to maintain initial physical control of an adult, adolescent or pediatric patient individually until assistance from other team members arrive.
* Escorts patients on and off campus for medical emergencies and diagnostic procedures when required.
* Conducts patient Q15 and Q30 minutes observation rounds with appropriate documentation, and one to one observation. Observes patient condition for signs/symptoms consistent with illness or mental status change; reports observations about patient condition to the nurse.
* Conducts environmental rounds on unit for safety.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Minimum Experience:
1 year of experience in a patient care environment, MentalHealthTechnician/Psychiatric Technician Certificate, CNA Certification, MA Certification, EMT Certification, Sixty hours of college credit in a related discipline, or successfully completed the Psychiatric Technician Internship program required
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
