About the Role & Program
The Digital Video Internship is an opportunity for an up-and-coming video editor to gain professional experience in a fast-paced, sports environment. The candidate will learn about the production and editing of trending video content on ESPN-branded digital and social platforms. This role will work within the Digital Video newsroom creating content and completing daily assignments such as custom vertical edits for social and producing digital highlights for the ESPN App and ESPN.com.
This role is best positioned for someone with knowledge of digital and social media content creation via non-linear editing software. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and already able to recognize high-level engagement opportunities to further ESPN's industry-leading video offerings. The dates of this program are June 2nd through August 8, 2025.
What You Will Do
Identify trending, “must-see”-type moments from games or on social platforms and translate them into engaging digital video opportunities
Participate with teams internally and externally in the creation and distribution of content that best activates new audiences.
Analyze usage and performance metrics that can lead to content enhancements and improvements
Effectively manage production timelines to ensure projects are executed on time
Maintain proficiency and knowledge in latest trends, technology and best practices for digital video content on ESPN platforms including YouTube
Required Qualifications & Skills
Some combined media experience with a focus on digital media
Basic non-linear editing skills (Quantel, Final Cut, Avid, Premiere, After Effects, etc.)
Strong base of current sports knowledge, including teams, players and storylines
Understand and follow closely the latest in social media trends
Excellent headline writing skills; an understanding of optimal tactics for content distribution
Strong understanding of core characteristics of “viral” content
Ability to work quickly and juggle multiple varied tasks during a typical work day
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Experience in editing content, specific to the needs and specs for multiple social media platforms.
Experience working in a mobile-first content environment

The Audience Engagement's SEO Team works to enhance the visibility of ESPN's digital editorial content within Google and other search engines. We communicate with sports sections on a regular basis to ensure we are targeting trending topics and fulfilling SEO best practices, to effectively serve fans in timely news windows. We also collaborate with the greater Audience Engagement Team and related groups (EX: Social Media) to pinpoint cross-channel placements that can maximize the reach of search-friendly articles. What You Will Do
As part of the SEO team, the intern will learn the dos and don'ts of surfacing in search during tentpole events and breaking news. As our intern, you will analyze the ESPN search audience to uncover insights that can translate into actionable editorial recommendations. Through this internship, you will learn how to optimize content for both on and off-platform, fulfilling the needs of our core audience while also targeting new users.
We are looking for an intern who is eager to identify SEO content opportunities, through both evergreen research and real-time analysis, while using journalistic principles to ensure content is in line with our brand expectations. The intern will support the SEO Director and Senior SEO Analysts in executing the day-to-day workflow for ESPN's digital sports coverage, serving editorial leaders across departments. You will learn the ins and outs of Adobe Analytics and other performance platforms, to help turn data into accessible insights for editorial stakeholders. You will also learn how to use backend systems like Google Search Console, to ensure articles are properly indexed by search engines.
The ideal candidate for this role has an active interest in SEO and is eager to grow within the realm of audience engagement in a newsroom setting. This role will require a flexible schedule, including occasional night and evening work.
What You Will Do
Assist with real-time optimization of our content by monitoring specific search keywords, auditing the ESPN website, and making timely article updates
Participate in real-time trends tracking during live events and help compile postmortem reports with key takeaways following events
Help maintain a database of evergreen content for backlinking and pitch new or updated evergreen stories
Monitor top trafficked SEO content to pinpoint recirculation opportunities and wins to share with the newsroom
Conduct competitor analysis to determine additional content gaps and areas of opportunity
Brainstorm new collaborative opportunities with SEO content partners including video, social, and visual storytelling teams
Provide research for bi-monthly SEO team newsletter and participate in ad hoc SEO research assignments
