Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
* Greets and escorts patients to exam room in a timely and courteous manner.
* Reviews patient chart to ensure all reports and results required by provider are available prior to exam/treatment. Obtains reports and results as required.
* Obtains and documents patient chief complaint.
* Obtains and documents patient vitals (i.e., height, weight, BP).
* Ensures exam/procedure room is appropriately supplied and set up to accommodate encounter based upon reason for patient visit.
* Reviews patient-supplied history forms for completeness. Queries to obtain missing information within parameters established by supervising provider.
* Assists providers with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments.
* Assists Physician with patient biopsy cases (limited to preparing patient, explaining procedure, and getting supplies).
* Starts IVs. Draws blood and/or assists in obtaining other specimens. Prepares and routes specimen(s) to laboratories; utilizing in-house services whenever appropriate; following verification of patients' insurance.
* Documents all activities/interventions, patient/family responses, medication prescribed, etc., in the medical record.
* Communicates with patients regarding provider advice/instructions within scope of training.
* Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines, and confidentiality policies.
* Phones in prescriptions to pharmacies based upon provider's written orders.
* Provides results and other information to patients as specifically directed by provider.
* Assists patient with the scheduling of future appointments, surgeries, and/or diagnostic testing, as necessary.
* The MedicalAssistant is not authorized to interpret reports or results or independently dispense medical advice to patients.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* MedicalAssisting Certification or three years' experience as a MedicalAssistant (eq. Army Medic, Navy Corpsman, EMT) required. All non-certified MedicalAssistants will be required to obtain their certification within 12 months of hire.
* American Heart Association CPR certification required.
* Proficiency in basic clinical skills as required by specialty (i.e. phlebotomy, blood pressure, EKG, injections) required.
* Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety, and patient confidentiality required.
* Minimum of 2 years' prior experience providing clinical support in a medical office setting preferred.
* Electronic Medical Records experience preferred.

Salary and Benefits:
The salary rate for part-time faculty is in accordance with the negotiated agreement and may be subject to change based on legislative mandates. In order to be eligible for benefits, state regulations must be met.
Rate of Pay: Faculty compensation units (FCU) are computed by total hours (lecture, lab, clinical) identified on the approved course outline for a given course, divided by eleven. Part-time faculty pay is computed by multiplying the faculty compensation unit rate by the number of faculty compensation units. The current FCU rate at Step A is $763.00
Example of Associate Faculty pay (this is for illustrative purposes only):

* 33 + 44 = 77
* 77/11= 7 FCUs
* A Step A faculty member would be paid 7 x FCU rate $763 = $5,341

MEDOP 21: Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Coding -Focuses on the guidelines for the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding systems and application of the rules to code patient services. Provides an overview of coding conventions, principles, regulatory guidance, and coding software.
MEDOP 22: International Classification of Diseases (ICD-CM) Coding - Focuses on the guidelines and rules for the International Classification of Diseases-Clinical Modification (ICD-CM) coding system and the application of the rules to code patient diagnoses and procedures. Provides instruction on ensuring accuracy of diagnostic groupings and adherence to current regulations in code assignment.
Classes are face-to-face and held on weekdays at the National City Higher Education Center campus.
Qualifications
Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of *professional experience
OR
Any associate degree and six years of *professional experience
* The professional experience must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment.Professional experience is also required when the applicant possesses a master's degree.
Additional assessment is required for applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States. In this case, the supervising CSU physician must verify competencies.

The Role

Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time, non-exempt probationary position scheduled to work 11 months each year. The compensation for the 11 months of work will be paid out over 12 months with the month of July observed off. Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and will not exceed $51,036 (Step 7) annually.
In accordance with the California State University 11/12 pay plan, the salary earned for months worked will ultimately be pro-rated to an 11/12 salary schedule and paid over 12 months in equal increments, with benefits covered for the entire 12 months. Under the 11/12 schedule, the salary placement will not exceed $3,531 - $3,899 per month, paid over 12 months with continuous benefits eligibility. Should the starting date not coincide with a standard 11/12 pay plan cycle, the employee will start at an equivalent full time 12-month salary rate with the month of July off unpaid and be converted to the 11/12 rate in August 2026 with benefits covered for the entire 12 months moving forward.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year. Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.

UI Health is seeking three (3) MedicalAssistant Credentialed / Certified staff to join our Orthopedic Clinic. This role will work under the direction of the Physician, performs a variety of clinical and clerical services to support physician practice in an outpatient setting.
Duties & Responsibilities:
A MedicalAssistant Credentialed / Certified typically performs the following duties per healthcare facility protocols (federal, state and university) and specific duties assigned
Maintains medical records in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, reviews and prepares EHR to ensure completeness prior to patient exam, obtains missing documentation; documents medical visits, observations, and related activities
Direct Patient Care Tasks:
* Assists nursing/medical staff with tasks related to preliminary assessment, education, and documentation of patient condition and the presenting health complaint including:
* Obtaining vital signs and other pertinent health information, i.e. conducts patient screenings during intake process.
* Administration of basic tests as by healthcare provider such as EKG, spirometry, pulse oximetry, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments {CLIA), etc.
* Informing the patient of test preparations and directions to diagnostic/treatment areas.
* Obtain specimens by noninvasive techniques, and collect blood specimens via capillary and venipuncture technique
* Assistsmedical/nursing staff with tasks or diagnostic/therapeutic procedures appropriate to experience, training and skill level.
* Responds to patient inquires (both in person and by telephone) and relays information to the appropriate clinical staff based on the nature of the inquiry.
* Transports or accompanies patients as directed
* Documents patient medications for medication reconciliation by history.
* Administers approved injections per appropriate protocol
Indirect Patient Care Tasks:
* Under direct supervision of clinical staff and following MD orders, completes requisitions for diagnostic tests/procedures.
* Assists in collection and processing of patient specimens. Performs and documents point of care specimen testing.
* Performs necessary follow-up to obtain laboratory/test results and other pertinent medical record information; records lab data.
* Maintains patient care environment in compliance with safety and infection control requirements including but not limited to ordering, stocking, and monitoring usage of linen, forms and supplies; disposal of soiled and used patient care supplies; sterilization of equipment.
* Performs and documents quality control tests on equipment as appropriate.
* Cleans and sterilizes equipment and maintains appropriate cleaning logs per policy.
* Obtains pre-authorizations and referrals.
Clerical Tasks:
* Maintains patient files and medical records; extracts clinical/demographic information as required.
* Schedules patient appointments.
* Checks patients in and out, requisitions charts/studies, registers patients and activates accounts according to hospital procedures.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
* High school graduation or equivalent.
* Possession of a current/valid certification as a Certified MedicalAssistant by an approved certifying board as defined by the employing institution. The approved certifying boards include; American Association of MedicalAssistant (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCTI) and/or National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
* Possession of a current/valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support CPR Certification

JOB PROFILE:
* Prepare and teach courses as assigned within Allied Health Technology programs.
