The Wood Co. was founded in 1940 by Wood's father, M.W. "Scotty" Wood.
The company purchased its first Guelph property at 123 Woolwich Street on the Speed River in 1941.
In 1947, Wood acquired his first large on-site dining contract at Muhlenberg College, which remains a client today.
In 1949, Wil Gonyea purchased Umpqua Plywood with Jay Pritzker and the Pritzker family, a partnership that has lasted more than 60 years in various business ventures, involving four generations of Gonyeas and three generations of Pritzkers.
