The Johnson County Mental Health Center is looking for a Mental Health Clinician to provide mental health crisis services with both our Mobile Crisis Response Team and our 988 call center. The Mobile Crisis Response Team is part of JCMHC's Emergency Services Division, is made of crisis case managers and licensed clinicians, and is based out of the Mission office but geared toward work in the community. MCRT is dedicated to resolving emergency situations by providing brief and intensive services to reduce individuals' needs for hospitalization and law enforcement interaction when possible and supporting client connection to resources including but not limited to mental health care.

This is a PRN position that will be utilized to expand MCRT to overnights and weekends, with the possibility of last-minute need requests. Schedule options will be discussed during the phone screening and interview. This position is eligible for a shift differential specific to weekday overnight hours($2.00/hr), weekend hours ($4.00/hr), and weekend overnight hours ($6.00/hr).
Johnson County has implemented a skill-based pay plan of up to $4200 annually for staff who have obtained licensure by the BSRB at the Clinical Level.

Job Description
The Crisis Clinician will have two primary roles on the team. First, the Crisis Clinician will be paired with a MCRT Crisis Case Manager to provide mobile crisis response. The pair will be dispatched by JCMHC's 988 Crisis Line team to safely respond to behavioral health crises occurring in the community. Safety is critical in these roles and the pair will request law enforcement support at their discretion. The pair will de-escalate, assess and support individuals through their crisis and complete timely follow up, either by phone or at their home, to ensure the individual connects to appropriate resources and/or the crisis has resolved.
The second role of the Crisis Clinician is to provide ongoing clinical support for clients on MCRT case managers' caseloads. This includes outreach visits with MCRT case managers to high acuity clients or those with complex circumstances for the purposes of clinical assessment, safety planning, and crisis stabilization. Other duties includes:
Responds across Johnson County as part of a 2-person team, providing mobile crisis interventions to a variety of individuals in crisis.
Assesses for suicide risk and other safety related concerns to determine the least restrictive level of care needed, developing a safety plan to remain in the community or coordinate higher level of care as appropriate.
Provides support, education, and connection to resources, as needed for appropriate crisis response.
Provides outreach and follow-up to prevent mental health crisis and/or criminal justice recidivism from various referral sources.
Collaborates with JCMHC teams, law enforcement, family members, hospitals, and other community agencies to advocate and partner for individuals' needs.
Completes and submits clinical documentation regarding services provided.
Collaborates with law enforcement on emergency detention as appropriate relating to the crisis and may complete state hospitalization screening as needed.
Cross trained on 988 Contact Center duties, to include calls, chats, texts.
Job Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements:
Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or other Human Services field and Kansas Behavioral Sciences licensure* at the master's level in the area of focus are required. May require a KS/MO driver's license, depending on department or agency.
*Applicants who meet Kansas licensure requirements may be considered if Kansas licensure is obtained by time of an employment offer and licensure is pending confirmation at the time of employment application.
Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

What You'll Do:
As a Crisis Therapist working within both our brand-new Crisis Intervention Center (CIC) and our Mobile Crisis Team, you will be a vital member of a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering immediate, compassionate, and effective mental health care.
Your core responsibilities will include:
Crisis Response & Assessment: Provide mobile and on-site crisis intervention services in homes, communities, and the CIC facility. Perform comprehensive mental health screenings and substance use assessments. Use trauma-informed care principles to stabilize individuals in crisis while developing short-term treatment plans.
Client Care & Support: Offer solution-focused therapy to individuals in acute emotional or psychological distress. Use de-escalation and care planning. Provide transportation assistance when needed.
Team Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team including medical staff, case managers, peer support, and community partners. Participate in team meetings, care planning meetings, and critical incident reviews. Provide support to other HPMHC programs as needed.
Documentation & Compliance: Complete timely, accurate, and compliant documentation of all interactions, assessments, and service plans. Maintain client records.
Training & Development: Complete required training including suicide risk assessment, crisis de-escalation, seclusion and restraint protocols, emergency response & trauma-informed care. Participate in ongoing in-service and professional development, including DBT training.
Community & Emergency Preparedness: Respond to critical incidents in coordination with law enforcement, EMS, and hospitals when needed.

Description of Services
This position is based inside an Army Correctional (prison) environment. This position will go through a paid physical conditioning course (low to medium difficulty, takes place inside a gym) prior to starting. 75% of inmates are ex-military sexual offenders. The remaining 25% are ex-military other types of offenders.
The position is responsible for establishing, developing, and maintaining effective treatment and rehabilitation for long term inmates. Highly specialized and unique treatment programs include but are not limited to: Violent Offender Treatment, Sexual Offender, Substance Abuse, and general mental health. Assignment also includes collecting and analyzing data to evaluate program effectiveness to justify initiation, continuation, discontinuance, or modification of specialized individual or group treatment programs. Air Force and Army correctional rehabilitation programs metric and program analysis is performed to assess efficiency, effectiveness, and regulatory compliance. The clinical psychologist will serve as part of the patient care team, including representatives of their medical-care disciplines. They speak and deal responsibly concerning professional and scientific matters in their specialized subject-matter area both within and beyond their own organization. The position is responsible for establishing, developing, and maintaining effective working relationship with other members of the DoD correctional community. Program successes and failures will require peer and DoD review briefings. Presentations to Service representatives, as well as professional agencies and organizations, are required to educate and influence actions related to advancing the goals of rehabilitation programs.
