Job Description
How will you make an impact?
The FieldService Engineer for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific performs on-site installation, alignment and repair of sophisticated equipment and systems. Engineers validate operational quality of system equipment; advise customers in the operation and maintenance of the system; serve as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects; and conduct on-site installations of analytical instruments serving the electronics research and manufacturing industries.
The FieldService Engineer will join a diverse team with skills ranging from sophisticated computer networks, precision mechanics, high voltage electronics, vacuum theory, particle beams, optics, and chemistry.

What you will do:
Conduct on-site installations across the region
Conduct on-site scheduled planned maintenance visits per commitments and schedule
Provide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and other fieldservice personnel
Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with users and colleagues
Complete technical training, as required
Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems
Advise external customers, manufacturing and internal customers thru effective communication
Partner with colleagues as mentee and mentor to continue personal and team development
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts for Service, documentation, and product factories
Collaborate with application scientists, technical support engineers, and customers to resolve complex customer challenges
Minimum Qualifications:
University Engineering Degree or equivalent combination of technical education and experience on sophisticated systems, or equivalent military experience
2+ years experience using SEM, TEM, FIB, Circuit Analysis, or similar systems
Ability to partner effectively with customers
Excellent interpersonal communication skills; must have a professional working proficiency in English
High level of proficiency on Windows software, network knowledge, current computer hardware
Must have ability to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required
Must possess a valid driver's license
Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Able to secure entrance to US Government laboratories and facilities, if required

The FieldServiceTechnician is primarily responsible for scheduled and remedial (break-fix) service on Small to Medium UPS, Power Distribution Units & Battery system products (2-120KVA) serviced by Vertiv, commensurate with appropriate classroom and on-the-job training. The FieldServiceTechnician is required to establish, promote and maintain excellent rapport with all customers, co-workers, sales representatives and others as appropriate. The FieldServiceTechnician is primarily responsible to support products and services sold to our “Edge” market segment, including retail, financial, and municipal customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
ROLE
Perform service tasks as assigned and as per company policies and procedures
Capable of working under direct supervision or independently based upon training completion
Render on-site and phone assistance to customers
Communicate with Technical Support on technical or procedural issues
Implement Field Change Notices per published guidelines
Keep current on Safety Bulletins, Safety Field Change Notices, Field Change Notices, and Service Tips
SAFETY
Operate in a safe manner in accordance with published safety guidelines

Essential Responsibilities
Adhere to Powell's current safety and quality standards.
Manage on-site project team in completing all site documentation in a timely manner; including but not limited to, weekly time sheets, signed service and repair order, materials used, services provided, and report writing.
Review project scope of work and material for each project.
Provide regular and clear communication regarding work schedules to internal and external customers.
Maintain flexible work hours, which will include over time and weekend support.
Comply with Powell‘s standard operating procedures, documentation processes, safety processes and protocols.
Coordinate with Powell Project management, customers, vendors, and labor support in a professional and customer-centric manner.
Able to work in different roles of individual support to working with small crews.
Able to provide Automation solutions to customers in support of sales.
Manage safety requirements for assigned projects.
Review test reports from projects for accuracy and provide recommendations to customers from deficiencies on test reports as a deliverable.
Demonstrate ability to manage tasks, commitments, and deadlines as it pertains to assigned tasks, communications with customers, and internal customers.
Participate in and develop documentation for onsite testing, as well as perform start up and commissioning activities as required.
Common projects include:
Protection relay testing and commissioning
SCADA system testing and commissioning
PLC based system testing and commissioning
Troubleshooting logic and making necessary corrections to automation product solutions
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, as well as 5+ years as an electrical fieldservice engineer in Automation.
Knowledge in common industrial communication protocols such as Modbus TCP/IP, IEC61850, and DNP 3.0.
Knowledge in SCADA systems using WonderWare InTouch, Allen Bradley Factory Talk, Copa-Data Zenon, Siemens WinCC, and/or SEL RTAC HMI
Knowledge of configuration files using various manufactures such as SEL, GE, Siemens and Beckwith.
Exhibit working knowledge of advanced electrical industry manufacturing standards & electrical systems, working knowledge of both factory testing standards and NETA MTS & ATS standards.
Specific standards include sections of ANSI IEEE C37 applicable to the design and manufacture of breakers and switchgear.
Specific knowledge of the following: ANSI IEEE device function numbers; ampacities of electrical conductors in switchgear applications; electrical air and surface creepage clearance requirements.
Demonstrate knowledge of basic electrical theory and control circuits i.e.: Ohm's Law; Advanced AC and DC theory; contactor and circuit breaker schematics.
Demonstrate knowledge of basic distribution protective relay testing, hi-pot testing, and breaker function testing. i.e.: testing of over-current and motor protection relays with current injection.
Skilled in the art of writing accurate and complete test reports, project summaries and has the ability to explain most of the system anomalies found on a given project.
The FieldService Automation Engineer will also be expected to demonstrate proficiency with computer skills using Oracle, MS Outlook, Power DB, Word & Excel.

Responsibilities
Supervises a team of technicians that investigate and perform repair services at residential homes and commercial buildings ensuring services are performed safely and effectively.

Ensures employees adhere to standard operating processes, daily performance expectations, and high levels of customer interaction
Interacts with cross-functional department employees and supervisors to ensure customer commitments are met
Manages employee relations issues and facilitates resolution including personnel concerns and development opportunities
Recommend employment actions ( hiring pre-screened applicants, promotions, demotions, terminations, pay changes)
Qualifications
Five years in customer service
Three to five years supervising team members onsite and remotely

Responsibilities
Communicate courteously with co-workers and customers at job sites or residences
Schedule service calls based on urgency and availability.
Order necessary parts and reschedule appointments if parts are unavailable
Troubleshoot product issues and implement corrective actions
Assist in training and mentoring junior technicians
Safely operate hand and power tools
Document service calls using mobile devices (iPad, Surface, etc.)
Submit service completion details using company software
Maintain service vehicle cleanliness and functionality
Manage inventory of parts and supplies in warehouse and vehicle
Inspect incoming parts for quality; reject and reorder as needed
Collaborate with other technicians on multi-tech projects
Ensure job sites are left clean and in original condition
Provide feedback to FieldService and Manufacturing teams

Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required
Strong knowledge of PGT products and warranties
Two to three years of experience in manufacturing or window/door repair
Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Windows
Comfortable using iPads and mobile devices for documentation
Ability to work independently and in a team setting
Clean driving record per PGT's safe driving policy
Excellent knowledge of hand and power tool safety
FieldService experience preferred
Self-starter with high motivation
Communicate effectively and courteously with customers, builders, and co-workers
Ability to read and comprehend instructions and memos
Ability to write clear correspondence
Comfortable presenting information in small group settings
Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus (especially in high Spanish-speaking areas)

Clean installed products and ensure job sites are returned to original condition
Safely operate hand and power tools

The FieldService Engineer for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific performs on-site installation, alignment and repair of sophisticated equipment and systems.
