Founded in 1894, Third Street has helped to establish community arts education in the United States.
1912 - Our orchestra received a visit from former President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt.
1923 - Librarian Cara Stanford Kibbe arranged for the School's first broadcast over the radio: Station WEAF broadcasted a group of soloist, students and faculty.
1959 - Third Street created an outreach program to the local public schools by sending faculty for after-school programs.
A pilot program begun in 1959 with 75 public school children through the Third Street Partners program.
1969 - Stowe C Phelps joined the Board of Directors.
1980 - Executive Director Robert Christensen began a program called the MILES program, that is, Music Instruction in the Lower East Side.
1999 - An annual performance of the Nutcracker was started at the School.
2015 - Third Street started its 3-year long renovation project.
