Do you work at Thom Child and Family Services?
Does the leadership team provide a clear direction for Thom Child and Family Services?
The pros of working at Thom Child and Family Services are that you have the ability to work with others with various professional backgrounds (and personal experiences) which can lead to on-the-job training and growth. Working with families, especially in their homes, provides you with the opportunity to help the family learn and grow, while experiencing the raw emotions that come with the process. You get to celebrate their successes and support them through their challenges. It is very rewarding work.
The hardest part of the job, which is not so much something Thom has control over, is that the amount of paperwork that needs to be completed on a regular basis can be very overwhelming. It is challenging to balance providing services to families while also completing everything required.
They are very generous with benefits- great vacation time, adequate amount of sick time, funding for professional development, and fantastic health insurance/dental coverage.
Gretchen is incredibly kind, thoughtful, and purposeful in the decisions she makes and the way she interacts with staff. Thom leadership has made me feel important and supported over the years.
I think that there has been a bit of a breakdown between leadership and clinical staff that could be improved, but I do feel that there are strides being made in working towards correcting this breakdown.
In my experience, compensation at Thom is comparable, if not a bit better, than industry averages. Early Intervention in general is a highly underpaid field, but Thom really goes above and beyond to find ways to make sure staff feel valued and appreciated.
Over the past several years, there has been an increase in representation of diverse demographics, particularly in leadership roles. A diversity, equity, and inclusion taskforce was established to ensure that these are areas of focus in the work and hiring process.
Working closely with families to guide and support them through the challenges that the early childhood years can present is incredibly rewarding and brings me great joy.
